Hi all.

When I record needle-drops (digital recordings of LPs) from various cartridges and turntables, I’d like to know what you’d all find useful or interesting to listen to to compare performance attributes.

I have my favorites (Bonnie Prince Billy, Gil Scott Heron), but I’d like to know what you all would like me to use as well. This poll is a list of songs I have on LP that I think would be good candidates.

You can vote for more than one.
I’ll use the top two or three at least.

Added votes for Beethoven and Waits. Thinking about removing the vote for James Taylor to ensure that doesn't happen. :)

I do believe I have that 1963 Cycle on 7.5ips R2R...it would be an intersting comparison.

Under My Thumb has to be one of the most perfect rock songs ever written. I never get tired of hearing that song. Yea...the marimba lines make it special. It gets my vote!

I sometimes trade recordings of Fire and Rain with another AKer. I think we've done about five each. So I vote for that one. It's no commentary on the song, just something we both have on vinyl.

Voted on Dionne, although I could just walk on by and put it on the TT.

No Julie London Brett? I'm surely disappointed.

Heart. That guitar riff for the "lead-in" is nothing short of great ...
and the vocals later aren't too bad either.

I did some needle-drops with the Rek-O-Kut 'table last night i want to match them with the Well Tempered. I'll post here when i get them uploaded.

Another vote for Heart. I like the guitar riff lead in and the vocals.

I did this one (it's getting good votes). The LP I have is a Nautilus Half-Speed Master version. Maybe I should use the normal pressing though so people can have a better comparison?

I love Dionne Warwick and have about six or eight of her LPs, and one R2R tape. They all sound terrible. I wouldn't think "Walk On By" is a good test of a cartridge.

Wait, I can vote for more than one?! Another Waits vote, here.

On second thought, that's a bad idea. Waits sucks. Send that rekkid to me and I'll... take care of it.

Anything Steely Dan or Donald Fagan is going to have some seriously good frequency response and great audio quality.
