The Shins - Port of Morrow

Naptown Rob

Ponographer
Spent some time with this rather long awaited album this weekend (it'll be in stores on Tuesday). I'm happy to report that it's been a very pleasant experience.
At times introspective, at times rather jaunty, on the whole a very nice (if somewhat brief - 10 songs, about 40 minutes) collection.

I have the feeling this one's really going to grow on me.
Now don't make me wait another 5 years for the next one, Mercer...

Damn I'm jealous of your job! I heard a couple of songs off of this on the radio yesterday when they were interviewing James Mercer and I was really digging it. Unlike you... I'm waiting patiently to listen to the rest of it.

Thanks - I'm living proof that you should always take the advice of Guidance Counselors with a grain of salt.:scratch2:
This is a really good Sunday record...

My wife brought this home yesterday. The LP, no less (w/download).

I'd heard a few cuts on KEXP here and wasn't terribly impressed but, figured I'd end up grabbing it anyway. I wondered why he kept the band's name, as he's the only one left, and just put out a James Mercer album? The familiarity of the name and its associations, I reckon. No matter, I really like the opener which I hadn't heard, and it sounds in general like a Shins meets Broken Bells to me. Which ain't a bad thing.

I'm enjoying it on a sunny Easter Sunday.
