AFAIK the "computer" is nothing more than a dedicated electronic equalizer that gets connected in a tape loop.

Never seen them, but you might be the first AKer with a bass computer.

We will require a review once you get them hooked up to something proper.

Very well built speakers. Hefty magnets on the woofers. I had the brochure for them until recently but you may be able to find it on the internet. Stereo Review did a review of these in the early 80's and quite liked them.

Ive had a chnace to listen to these and i'm quite impressed !
Ofcourse my wife says i'm a cheap date, but thats beside the point ;)
Very nice sound from these through a Carver M1.0t and Sony cd player.
They can play very loud as well :D
All in all i'm very happy with them and thanks for the response's.

:tresbon: You, sir, are one lucky SOB. :thmbsp:

I recently got a pair off of Ebay, original packaging and in pretty much unused condition, for about $200 and thought that was a helluva deal. They have been one of my Holy Grail speakers for 33 years and for good reason. I have two pair of KLH3s and the parts to build a set of the KLH2s as well. LOVE that series of speakers.

These are from 1978-1980, when KLH was owned by Infinity. The Analog Bass Computer is a sixth order active EQ with a feedback loop to limit overexcursion below a set frequency; in the case of the KLH1s, that would be 32 Hz. These are capable of digging seriously deep and generally sound pretty neutral, a hint on the warm side. The LK10DT tweeters absolutely benefit from recapping (found that out from my KLH3s, their little brothers, which are 6"x8"x12" and go down to 40 Hz) and open up beautifully afterwards.

You must - MUST! - go get a copy of Bela Fleck's "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" and play the title track to see what two actively equalized 8" woofers are capable of - deep, fast, musical. THEN you will understand.

Enjoy!!! :music:

As far as the ABC, the speaker leads get hooked to the speaker wires at the amp; the computer can be placed in the tape loop or in the pre out-main in loop. Do NOT use the EQ with other speakers as it'll toast the woofers nicely. I run mine with the in/out button in and the wall gain buttons out (these are for reducing the boost when they are placed in the corners or against a wall).

I also recently picked up a pair of KLH-1s with the "Analog Bass Computer". I have to say that they are by far the best speaker to ever wear the KLH logo. Nice smooth mids, airy highs, pinpoint imaging and surprising bass response. I like 'em.

There is a lot of serious bass all through Flight Of The Cosmic Hippo. The CD will let you know very quickly if your system can produce some low bass.

I had a pair of these in from 1982 to 1990. Worse decision i ever made was to sell them. Congrats on an awesome, under-rated and very rare pair of speakers... I never see them on ebay or craigslist.

KLH Series 1-2-3 Brochure and Manual

Good Move :thmbsp:

I am the original owner of a set of KLH-2s.

Here a link to the original manual for the series.

And some brochures, and a discussion from Classic Speaker Pages which
includes both quotes from an article/interview with the designer
explaining how the "Bass Computer" works and quotes from reviews.

"review - consumer guide Dec. '80 ( not cons. reports) " It does not take long, listening to the KLH 1 pair, that this is a top performing system that easily ranks amoung the best . . ." ' the 30 hz response was legit, with strong fundamental energy." "Mid bass was exemplary; it was smooth and ungimmicked'." " all told, the KLH 1 is something of a sound commoisseur's product, certainly one of the best engineered and best sounding systems available."

Enjoy!
