ATN140LC in AT120E Cartrdige Wow!

I posted before when I upgraded my ATN120e for the ATN440mla still in the AT120E cartridge. After extensive a/b tests I was so disappointed I returned the ATN440mla and after more research I figured I'd gamble with the ATN140LC

After some quick a/b tests today, between ATN120E and ATN140LC, I am loving the ATN140LC. It seems to have the similar low end I was looking for to the ATN120e but not quite as bright in the high end and clearer in the mids and highs. It just goes to show, it's not always about the price or the brand. For my tastes I really couldn't stand the ATN440MLA, definitely my least fav of the three.

Never heard the 140 but I have 155LC here.If it's anywhere near the 155 it has to be a winner.Heard several complaints over the years regarding ATN440MLA being to bright.

I actually didn't find it too bright, especially when compared to the ATN120E, however it was all mids and midrange clarity, no low end girth. I find the 140 much more balanced

The 120 body/140LC stylus combo has become my new daily cart after YEARS of a serious Stanton/Pickering addiction.

I've tried the 152 stylus (p-mount version of the 155) and it was too bright for my tastes. The 140LC just sounds right. Balanced is the proper term for it.

I don't know if the 140 cart body was any different than the 120. I would guess not (or not much).

Yea it's a really great sound. My best combo so far. I think there is a slight difference in the cartridges I found when doing research, but can't remember what.

bang, that ATN130E score you turned me onto in that lot buy on ebay sounds absolutely superb. The more I play it the better it sounds. Thanks again for that heads up.

Glad you were able to grab it. Always trying to help out my fellow AK'ers.

Oh, I see you found a good match for your AT120E :thmbsp: :)

Anyway I think the ATN440MLa stylus loses its goodness when fitted in my 130E... I dunno why :O On the other hand the full AT440MLa cartridge sounds better, more defined, with much more low extension...not to mention the superb traceability.

pretty much sums up why I kept a 12Sa over a 440MLa. The 440 may have had an edge in absolute detail, it didn't play music as well as the 12Sa. I listen to music.
