Bose 8.2 "Stereo Everywhere" floor-standers.

Just for yuks.

These have been out in my barn since a friend went small/SET with his system. He got them for $30 at the flea market about 5 or 6 years ago. I've become quite dissatisfied with my main speakers (Vienna Acoustic Mozart Grands), so thought I'd haul these in and clean them up.

They sound quite nice; better then the KLH Model 23s I had hooked up last week. By comparison, the Bose are more open sounding with a greater dynamic range and stronger all-around presence.

I think the dual tweeter configuration accounts for the more open sound. And the rear-ported bass tuning does pretty good with the bottom end; better than the KLHs, but not as good as my Viennas.

It's a funny thing, though-this "stereo everywhere". What it actually means is "stereo nowhere" as there is no soundstage; just a room full of music.

Anyway...some pictures for your vicarious enjoyment (or angst; you know, the whole "Bose thing")

Never heard that model, but I do like the look. Kinda reminds me of 301's on top of a bass module.

Hopefully the bashing will be kept to a minimum.

I hope so too. There's really nothing to bash here as far as I can tell.

I would personally like to hear a Bose Tower speaker in person!eventualy
These actualy look like a well built Bose speaker , No BOSE bashing on this model .

Towers are good I hear!!!!:thmbsp:
Acustojunk = junk

No bashing here . Those look great . When you dispose of pre-conceived notions , it opens up whole new worlds .

Is another woofer located in the lower chamber or does the woofer on top make use of all that volume below it?

Looks like it's just the one woofer channeled through a tuned base.

I never have seen those before, very interesting. I looked them up. Seems the bottom is a ported chamber and it is a 2-way with 10" woofer and 2 tweeters. With all that space, I wonder why Bose chose to put the tweeters in front of the woofer. Probably pretty good bass with that much cabinet volume and a port.

I have never been a Bose basher. My only complaint was the price/value ratio. I like the 901's and would own a pair if the price were right. I have a friend with a pair of 301's and they sound quite nice. As you mentioned, the sound is a little more immersion than the typical sound stage. The first time I heard the 901's was a sound room back in the late 60's. I remember looking around the room as the sound came at you differently than the other speaker in the room. Like many things, it is personal preference. Those are really nice looking and if they sound as good as they look, I would love to have a pair sitting in my house.

Now you're just baiting the bashers...surely you know that Bose is famous for not posting specs...

I hate to see you suffer with those - please come borrow my Snells or those sweet Cornwalls.

I sold a pair a bout 3 months ago - they are probably in a shipping container heading the the oreint right now - they actually sounded pretty good and the bass was very good.

That's actually an interesting design by BOSE! Wonder why they discontinued it? I would expect that they sound quite good!

I've got two pair of the 10.2 II series, love 'em.
No Freq specs or efficiency #'s though.
Purchased new at $700 odd per pair, back around 89 ? so a two fer one price.
I ain't gonna complain.

I was always fond of my pair of 6.2s, they looked like slightly larger 301's, but to my ears, they sounded better, & had more bass.

I'd own another pair of the .2 series if they showed up for not too much cash.

Wow! I am not a Bose basher but I am shocked that these sound better than the Vienna's. If my memory is correct, in the mid-70's, Bozak and Bose went to the tweeters over woofer to get a more open and airy sound. I actually liked the 601's wit that open array on the top. If they used better drivers, it would have sounded better.

Now hold on...I never said they sounded better than the Viennas; they sure don't. I only said I've been dissatisfied with the Viennas.

I do find the Bose to sound better than the KLH Model twenty-threes though; by a long shot I'd say.

Listening to different speakers in the same room with the same components can be fun and educational.

I put my sub woofer away after I got my KLH 23's recapped and woofer surrounds sealed. Huge difference in bass after sealing the cloth surrounds. I considered the 23's to be average until I restored them. No offense taken though. I have a set of Bose 4.2's from the mid 80's that I like a lot.
