DCM Time Window 2 (Squared) Speakers

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me about some DCM Time Window 2 Speakers I recently picked up off of CL.

I have never seen this type of DCM speakers before and was really curious as to what you guys and girls think of them. I have yet to hook them up but I will as soon as I find the right amp for them.

There is hardly any information on the web for these speakers and what I have found seems to be pretty good and that they are very rare.
Also they seem to take a lot of power to push them.

What is really neat is the two seperate pieces for each speaker.

If anyone has any information about these or where I could find a manual I would really appriciate it.

Thanks,
Dan8drums

Wish I could help. The Timewindow 2's are rather rare and unfortunately there isn't much info available for them. Seems as though they were a very short production run just prior to the TW-3.

Always felt lucky I found a pair. They are different from all the other DCM models with the separate enclosures for the tweets.
Remember the odd number goes on the left. If yours have DCM Badges, mine do not, the badges are placed to the inside facing each other.
Using a Parasound HCA 1200II, but.am planning to use Heathkit AA1640 soon.
Enjoy.

There have been a couple threads with pics and information here on AK. Don't know if they will have the info you seek, but what the heck you can find folks that have the same speakers you have.

Thanks for the help guys.

I am really curious how they will sound and just have to clean them up to look brand new. Now I just have to talk the wife into letting me put them in the living room. That will be the problem. If she doesn't like them I guess I will have to sell them :(

Here's some info on the TW ^2. I have a pair driven by a Moscode 600 and am very satisfied with the sound.

- transmission line design
- twin 8" woofers, butyl surround
- twin co-axial mid/tweets
- nominal 12 ohm impedence
- crossover incorporates "sound stage shaping" circuit
- controls on back of head cab are High Frequency Dispersion, Mid Frequency Dispersion and Tweeter Level
- controls on head cab bottom plate are factory set and used to calibrate the speaker to a reference profile
- Height 44" (Bass cab 36", Head cab 8")
- Diameter 17"
- Weight 70 lbs (Bass cab 50 lbs, Head cab 20 lbs)

Well if you do want to sell them, there are probably a few folks around here that would entertain a deal - me included

As Dr. said in another thread - it's sort-of a cult.

Tppc, thanks for posting this information. I've always been curious what was in the TW-Squared and how they were configured. Looks very similar to the TW-3.

There isn't much information on the TW^2, but I recall my Dad mentioning that it was a low production "Statement" design from DCM. I think he purchased them in 1984. They were quite expensive from what I remember.

The serial numbers on my pair are 617, 618. I've run across a few other threads where TW^2 owners mention serial numbers in the 300 and 400 range. I'm guessing that not more than 1000 were made.

From what I can tell, the TW^2 design differs from other Time Windows in that the TW^2 uses a separate cabinet for the HF drivers, a larger mid driver, and the crossover network is more complex.

TW² 82-84 $2,197/pr

It looks like the mids are the same as the woofers used in the TW. The tweeters look to be a modified by sculpting the mounting plate, tweeters installed in front of the mid drivers. The crossover had to be more complicated with the Time issue that was important to DCM and the fact that it was a three-way.

These must be some nice speakers as they came out during the reign of the Time Window before the TW3 and the TW1a.

Just brought home a pair of tw^2 (squared), from original owner with owner instruction manual and also sales brochure. Specs and setup info. Kaliph11 states..odd# on left..not quite true with my tw^2..my bases are#660 & 661..with 660 being the left speaker..due to the tuned ports are to be on the outside of speaker..the heads are #543 &544..that is where the odd # is on the left for mine.(according to the sound field arrrow). If anyone would like me to post a pic of either paperwork..or want copies..pls just let me know. Here is a pic of mine..running on my conrad johnson sonographe pre > musical fidelity tube buffer > Denon poa 2800..sony es cd player is my source..I personally think they are much better than my old tw3's, I have owned quite a few DCM's..tw1..tw3..qed..tf600..tf1000..these tw^2 are the best so. I have not heard the 7's, but would probably stay away due to the finish..I prefer light wood finishes...here is a pic of my new favorite Dcm's

Congrats BigMike. My bases are not numbered at all. Where are the numbers on yours?
Thanks -reverb- On the back/bottom, below the banana jacks, they are stickers with serial #'s. I used a flashlight to verify where the tuned ports are, the manual has them to the outside. The heads are numbered on the bottom. Great speakers!

Oh, OK. No such stickers on my pair. Not sure if you ran across it, but here is a rebuild thread that has lots of TW^2 nudies.

http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/dcm-timewindow-2-crossover-rebuilds.686796/

Interesting to know the ports go to the outside. I have the original owners manual (looks to be hand-typed) but there is nothing on my bass units to tell which is left and which is right. I guessed ports to the outside.... got lucky!

Here are the pics of the brochure, this has the pics of drivers/ports and specs on back..btw..thanks for the link View attachment 809815 View attachment 809816
WOW BigMikehifi, the pics of the TW2 brochure are quite a find for me. I have a pair I hope to restore some day too. Anyway, I downloaded the pics you posted, but they are pretty difficult to read. Would you mind sending me full resolution files of those pics? Not sure how you would do it; I didn't see a way to PM them, or maybe post them on the forum in high res, if that's allowed. Anyway, would sure appreciate. I would send you my email, if you can PM me from this forum. I'm not on here that often, so am unfamiliar with forum functions. Thanks.
