With all the turntables around here you would think I could devote at least one to satanic messages but...

I picked up this Dual 1254 at a good price a few days ago. The guy claimed it might need the cables repaired but that has not seemed to be necessary. It's in great shape, includes both spindles, 45 adaptor and a good lid. However, after playing a few sides it started up in reverse. :scratch2:
I had to unplug to stop it, and it did it every few power on/off cycles after that. I read up on it it and the info pointed to the motor start capacitors. I went to my local electronic emporium at lunch today and grabbed the parts I needed.
There are 3 caps on the board and while only one might have been at fault I did all 3. The values are .33uf, .068 and .01 and while proper motor start caps are probably recommended, due to the low draw of a turntable motor (as compared to a compressor or an industrial strength appliance) I just picked up the cheapest mylars of the right values. Total outlay was less than $5. The .01 they did not have in the 250v type so I got a 600 volt version.

As usual I neglected to take an "after" pic of the board. I mostly took a "before" so I could make sure I attached the various leads correctly afterwards. After soldering and cleaning the arc blackened pins I threw it together and it worked, and has run in the right direction now a dozen times. :thmbsp:
I like these cheap Ortofon and ULM equipped tables. The tracking is so outstanding and the sound has great punch.
