Finally possibly an answer to a Philips mystery

Not my sale. The brochures I have all show the 79x/79x1 series receivers that were made from '77 though '81 according to Orion but, none of the 78x/78x1 series. This brochure has a publication date of 1980 or 3 years after the intro of the 79x series. It als does not have the earlier turntables but has later cassette decks the 4504 and 4506 reel to reels. Also, the brochure is missing the 578/572 and 673 and the 185 and larger integrated amps but shows the 180 tuner that is missing in the brochures I have. So it looks like the Orion may be wrong as to the dates of production for the 78x/78x1 series receivers and they are in fact later than and replaced the 79x/79x1 series and the production dates that were thought of as through '81 appear to have ceased by 1980.

I have a brochure with those same two pages in it... I am SURE mine is from 1980 or earlier (i.e., I picked it up when it was in college, and I DO remember, vaguely, when I graduated from college).

If anyone wants any scans from it let me know... it's a small-format brochure, so, if I posted them sideways, I could probably just upload 'em here.

brian,
which brochure do you have?the one i have that has the seperates in has the 78xx series in it and the earlier turntables 212 etc.. but no 79xx series.this would conflict with the assement that the 79xx series was earlier.

scans

I may be slow, but I am unreliable :-)

Here are the first few pages of the Philips brochure I have. You'll see that there are two pages on each of the receivers, but the scans are "frame shifted" 'cause the very first inner page of the (tall, thin) brochure has an introductory blurb.

I can e-mail bigger JPGs to any interested parties.

Happy holidays!

guess they go from right to left, just to make matters slightly more complex :-P
EDIT: Aaaaaa, that time they were all muddled up! If you roll across the images, you'll see the scan number in the file name.

Here're the next 10 pages (5 scans) for your dining & dancing pleasure...

I need to pull my brochure but is is readily apparent that mine are earlier. Your selection of tables is larger. 1 day I gotta get me a scanner thing and try to have all the fun you are. Thanks.

Yup, the 777/867/877 were the new tt's that model year. Bought an 877 when they came out; it was TOTL for about 3 months, then there was an 887 and later a 977! :-) I still have the 877, though... it's decent enough.

Next 10 pages... getting into the good stuff... is this of interest to you Philips-o-philes?

Hello all,
I have a Philips 777 direct control TT. Can anyone give me some details on this? Best cartridge and stylus for it, that kind of thing... Thanks a million

Wow, a post to this thread after 4 years...

I like Grado cartridges on these old Philips. I think the 777 specs are posted earlier in this thread, no? It's kind of a low-end tt, but the arm at least should be decent.
