Made Some Walnut LP and Stereo Cabinets

Zonker92

All shiny and chrome
I need to get the light better, and I don't have the shelves in (two moveable shelves go in the stereo cabinet), but you get the basic idea. 3/4" walnut veneer plywood with veneer edge banding, and solid walnut frames underneath. Stained with the three-step process on LH. Finished with Watco Teak Oil, with wax pending.

The stereo cabinet is deceptively strong; I can sit on it no problem. It has solid walnut braces in the top corners, glued and screwed into place, an angle iron hidden underneath, walnut bracing underneath and glue and screws throughout. The legs are held on with a bunch of T-nuts embedded in thick plywood blocks, glued and screwed under the cabinet.

I have two adjustable shelves ready to go except their oil is drying.

The shelf holes are predrilled. I used the middle board as a template for the sides, so they all line up perfectly. I have beefy cast shelf supports, too.

Here's the stereo cabinet:

Thanks! :D The Danish Modern thing really got me a long time ago, I guess. (Except all my stuff from Scandia was teak, and this is walnut.)

So my Luxman PD277 turntable will be top center, flanked to either side with my MK3 VTA tube monoblocks in custom walnut plinths, driving my JBL 4430s' horns.

Inside will be an Adcom gear (GFA-5800 SS amp (250 WPC) driving the 4430 woofers, plus an Adcom preamp and Adcom power conditioner) in one stack and the music server, DAC, etc. in the other.

Gotta make sure the cables are tidy. I've already made teeny walnut blocks separating them out ...

zackk, I'd say I have under $300 into both of them ($125 for the plywood and $60 for the legs, $60 for walnut stock), plus hardware, oil, and miscellaneous supplies), and maybe 12-15 hours' work. It really wasn't that bad except I spent a lot of time planning and redesigning and surfing pictures and such.

BUT

My main investment was $500 for a DeWalt contractor's table saw, $100 for a dado blade, $150 for an Incra HD miter gauge, $80 for an 80-tooth blade, $20 for a digital protractor, and a bunch of toys like that. :D

STILL cheaper than buying real walnut stuff new.

Home theater may be next.

Thanks! :D

Legs from here: http://www.alphafurnishings.com/

Their picture of the legs didn't show them clearly, but I took a chance and I think it paid off; they are a simply amazing value at that price; with a lot of stiffening ribs and a nice finish.

I sent them one of the photos above and they may put it on their site.

Thanks! The LP cabinet was a total afterthought; I just had some material left over. But now I'm thrilled I made it, and it worked out well, because for months, I've been promising my wife to move my records out of the china cabinet .... :D

Thanks, my friend! I'm truly just learning as I go along; working slowly, making mistakes, starting over, watching Youtube videos and such. It's amazing all the information out there.

But you've gotta see the Dynaco / VTA MK3 monoblock walnut plinths I made; I'll post photos when I get them all set up on the cabinet. Can't wait!

Wow! Very Nice! I love the looks. I bet they were just an excuse so you could by some power tools........:D

Well, yeah, kinda sorta ... guilty as charged ...

But also, it's part of a master plan: Walnut speaker stands, matching walnut tube amps on the horns, passive biamping with solid state on the woofers, a new framed poster up above, new speaker cables separated in pairs with walnut blocks, maybe a spotlight up above on the whole deal, new remote, and various other little plans up my sleeve. It's all just so close to being done, but not yet; not yet. :music:

Just Beautiful! I love how the grain of the wood flows perfectly from the top and down the sides.
