VTA Dynaco MK3s ... in Walnut

Zonker92

All shiny and chrome
Finally getting around to posting better photos. These started as Dynakit / VTA kits I got from Roy Mottram. I designed and built the walnut plinths for them. (And the cabinets, Squeezebox Touch stand, speaker stands, and the LP cabinet.)

Thanks! Yeah, I have a box full of lovely walnut scraps as part of the learning curve. :D I keep thinking of uses for them, such as the Squeezebox Touch / remote / iPad base you can sort of see in my first photo.

Thanks! Offhand I think this is my only photo, but I can take more later. The amps just drop into them, and the backs are open and flush. I have the amps reversed from how people usually position them, to put the cables, etc. in back. There are two beveled cross-pieces inside, one in front and one in back, glued and screwed into the front and side pieces. The amps' feet rest upon the crosspieces. Everything is 4/4ths walnut stock.

Oh, and I got the beefy rubber feet at Parts Express.

Also, I think the amps may breathe / cool better with so much open air beneath them.

Nice!

Those amps are killer. I run a Bob Latino ST120 which is somewhat similar to the amps you built. I'd like the monoblocks you have thou.

I run some Wayne Parham 4PI speakers that I built with a mod... JBL 2226H woofer and the B&C DE250 compression driver. I'd bet the system I have has some similar sounds to yours.

Nice system you have !

Thanks! That's funny that you have the 4Pi; that's the model that I keep suggesting to people (and myself) as a great choice for a high-value, great sounding speaker. (I have not actually heard them, but they look like a terrific design.) I agree that our systems probably sound similar. Do you have any photos?

Here is a link to my system... I spent money on the system and not on finishing my basement!

The 4PI are on the bottom and I did a mod which has a taller speaker build. This way you can use 2 round ports and not the rectangle wayne has. Another builder did the same and did a good sound test validation on Wayne's forum. I can did up the link on this should you want it.

The Sub in the corner is a JBL Sub I built with a 2242H 18" JBL. Unreal good JBL happening with that beast.

Zonk, when I first saw the photos of that beautiful room, I wondered about those amps on the plinths; I knew the plinths were your handiwork, but the MKIII amps I did not recognize. AGAIN, VERY NICE!

Beautiful woodwork. I'm guessing you did your own hardwood floor too. Is that a walnut plank running diagonal across the floor?

Fabulous!

Thanks!

Doc, our oak flooring is from the original construction - 1940s maybe? - and that stripe is a cheap gray plastic cord cover running a cord out to some lamps. I usually hide it for photos but I forgot this time. I really should climb under there and add a floor outlet but I hate it down there. The floor kind of needs refinishing too. So many items on my to-do list!
