TransAudio Party Favor!

I like to pull weeds.
Hey Everyone,

Today's goal of finding blue masking tape for the SP-3500's just didn't work out, spent most of the day at a 10 year old girl's birthday party. We all had a good time, normal 10 year old girl shenanigans.

It was my wife's side of the family, we've only been married for 2.5 years and haven't known each other much longer than that. The father of the girl knows my "trip", drag home free speakers for fun and merriment.

Within the first 10 minutes of being there he said he pulled some speakers out of the trash for me. COOL !!!

I thanked him muchly and showed an appropriate amount of interest. And of course, I dragged them home. This is the 4th pair of Pacific Stereo's finest I've dragged home over the last 12 months and recognized the similarities down to the goofy square hole'd screws holding the drivers in place.

Wow, these things are lousy. Not quite sure what I'm going to do with them. My first thought is to put them up on CL's FREE section. But the father was pretty interested to "see what I could do with them". So, I'm going to button them back up and toss them on my pile. Clean, woofer refoam, recap and sell FAST.

I don't know what the birthday girl got for her birthday, but I had fun!

PS - Noodle helped unload them.

Transaudio was Pacific Stereo's product line at the bottom beneath Quadraflex. The woofer looks to be of good quality, the Foster phenolic ring tweeter should sound just as good as an American CTS unit of that era, but that midrange driver is crapola! If you could find a pair of better mids with matching efficiency, these could turn out to be a decent sounding speaker. Have fun!

Hey Stickman,

Thank you for stopping by! Beneath Quadraflex? Yikes. In any case, yeah I was hip to the nicer Foster tweeter, was good there. I got a guffaw out of the midrange and wasn't sure about the woofer. I really like the color and texture of the grill cloth, but that all kinda got wiped clean with the vinyl veneer.

They are built well enough and are more than quite heavy. They're in decent enough cosmetic shape, all they need is a good cleaning all over.

There's 2 caps in there, 1 is buried pretty darned deep. All I need to do is find out the values and I'm good there.

I'll be patient and let them roll, see what comes up. Yeah, maybe with some modern caps and a decent enough midrange and they'd be just fine. Heck, maybe I could give them back to the guy all freshened up!

Here's my other 2 Pacific Stereo speaker projects.
