Ultrasonic Cleaner Repair Help

The unit is a TruSonik 10 liter modle.

It came in a record cleaning setup. "Ultra Sonic Record Cleaner V8"
http://www.ultrasonicrecords.com/

The problem is that the agitation stoped working but everything else does, so it's not the main fuse. It seemed like it was starting to slowly go out until one day when I was preheating the tank. When the sonic motors are not on the fan is off but you can set the heater on which can transfer heat so I don't get that. Considering the main board has so many heat sinks for protection.

I called Ultra Sonic Record Cleaner and they are trying to pass the buck but asked me to try and adjust this little blue part right next to the agitation speed control, "nothing from this Adjustment"
Video Here

Now I have the main board out of the unit can anyone guess what's wrong? I don't have test equipment other than a Multi Volt Meeter. I can find hardly any info on this unit let alone schematic.

The speed control switch has continuity that I can tell if i'm doing it right.

Thanks

That blue do-hicky with the screw in it is an adjustment for the speed controll. Below it is the plug-in lead to the speed controll switch/ Pot.

Readjust parameters with 10KΩ multiturn trimer( blue).

What?

I'm not a tech so that was all Greak to me. Above I said that the (Blue Adjustment does nothing)

I also added the vidio that was sent to me on that.

Listened to video and your cleaner sounds like the ultrasonic motors were being overdriven. The motors were slowly fading up to total failure. I'm thinking they died. How many hours on those motors?

That was not mine it was a demonstration sent to me. Mine does not work at all.

As far as time on the motors I was told they don't go bad that they are just magnets.

Lets see in one month I cleaned 1550 records 8 at a time @ 10 Minute cycles

It looks like about 32 hours

As an Aussie would say; Well mate you maybe got your moneys worth if you can't fix it. And I'm American.

I like your pictures!! Looks like good stuff. some kind of schematic available?

I assume that the multi-turn resistor just adjust output voltage? Have you tried removing the red/black wires (on the white clip) to the board, hooking up a meter, turning it on and measuring the voltage? Does the voltage change at all when you turn the trimmer on that resistor? I'm assuming that those wires go to the magnets/motors?

If you don't get output power, you'll have to start measuring backwards. Is it possible that the IC chip is fried?

The red black with plug are the speed switch like a pot.
I tested the switch like that and it worked But I'll check the blue addjuster that way as well.

It doesn't do anything when it was all hooed up I addjusted the screw and nothing.

Having a hard time deciphering your pics. Where is the output from the speed control board? Turning the pot adjusts something on the output of that board. Can you measure output and verify that anything changes when you turn the pot when it's connected to the board? If you leave the pot in one place, what happens when you adjust the trimmer on that resistor?

Yes but it does nothing when it was all together Can you measure output and verify that anything changes when you turn the pot when it's connected to the board? You don't have it pluged into ac doing this do you? I don't want to get killed If you leave the pot in one place, what happens when you adjust the trimmer on that resistor?nothing happens

The only thing that work are the control panel, fan, heater, so are you thinking that blue adjuster died?

XS1 = output to main board
XS3 = adjustable pot
XS2 = ???

Where is the voltage in? If XS2 is voltage in, there are only two inputs. I would think, if it were AC, you would have three wires. Is the board not grounded?

If you're not comfortable with probing around, and I don't blame you, I'd lay some pressure on the manufacturer. At the very least they should be able to tell you exactly where to hook up a meter and do some minimal voltage testing to narrow things down. It may not be that turning the trimmer does nothing (as in, the trimmer is broken), but that something else on that board is broken.

Have you tried Googling the IC component and getting the pin outs? You could try to find out what the pins are to take voltage readings.

I think it's spent. Ultrasonics? Maybe you can get a salvage unit. hey flip side is put in a motor and see if it runs. When parts are are from asia I can't read it. It might be recycled, too.

Did some random Googling and it appears that the transducers can become detached from the tank and/or crack, which would cause the problems you're having. Sounds like you were running this thing pretty hard for days and days, it's possible that the transducers vibrated themselves apart or off? Don't know. Take a look at a few of these links, skim through and glean what you can:

http://www.electronicspoint.com/threads/ultrasonic-cleaner-not-working.64155/

http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/samschem.htm#schahv5

Could explain why you have voltage, things heat up, the main pot measures well, but adjusting the trimmer does nothing.

All of this is well above my level of expertise though. Hopefully someone can chime in with some useful information. If I were you though, I'd open an account over at diyaudio and tell your story, post pics, etc. The DIY crowd is quite rabid (and helpful) over there. Good luck!

Hey thanks

It doesn't look like anything is un glued but I'll look. There is these big cap screws on the bottom of the motors that I could try turnning. I realy think it something like a diode, fusesistor something went out of value. the tank gets hot preheating but the fan only work when the motors are switch on.
