Common problem, not an easy solution. Usually a plastic part breaks internally, and a clutch assembly that does ff/rew gets very hard to turn, instead of spinning freely.
It could be the motor, as the ff/rew has it's own motor, and a solenoid, but the plastic part breaking is the rule, not the exception.
There are threads on here discussing this problem from myself, pustelniakr and others. Also the same clutch is found in the ct-f1000.
Various imperfect fixes include glue, extra washers and springs...
I have 2 ct-f9191's awaiting further research on exactly this subject.
Every once in a while I spend some time contemplating why in the he#@ they ever overthought that d%$# idler. I'd like to meet the manager that approved that assembly / concept .... ( in a dark alley??) of course we have the benefit of hindsight in the matter.
I would love to own a small metalworking lathe.....
Working on this necessitates the removal of the transport assembly from the deck (4 screws and some door involvement that MAY require faceplate removal, I don't remember as I always had the faceplate off already by the time I got that far in) and disassembly of the transport itself.
Some pictures were lost in the great database crash, I'm not sure if and where I have my originals. As it is the pictures don't carry enough 3-d information to be as useful as I thought they could be.
In the picture of the transport assembly the ff/rew motor and solenoid had been removed for clearance and clarity,
