Determining the frequency at which LF content becomes localized in your rig...

Have fun, report back with the results.

Oh, and do take some time to poke around the entire website...you might learn some things about your rig you didn't know (and some you don't want to know).

I'm curious to hear where others are finding LF content becomes localized in their rig. There seems to be a variety of results out there from one person to the next....wondering if I'm able to compile enough data I might find some consistencies or perhaps somewhat predictable trends. Purely scientific...if not lacking some scientific discipline. :smoke:

whats this supposed to achieve Michael?
If you have a sub, it might tell you that you have a gap between its highest frequency and the lowest your main speakers can reach.

It might also tell you that you should be using two subs given the highest frequency you run it/them to.

Thanks.

Not too sure if I did the test correctly, But I think the bass sort of disappeared between 50 and 40Hz without the subs on.

With the sub off, bass began to center between 100hz and 80 hz. It kind of swung to the center and then became tough to place.

I cross over to the sub below 80hz and am pretty happy with the sound.

What next?

Now do it with subs on.

Ok so I realise the location of the perceived bass is important with this.

Without the subs on, the location becomes sorta blurred from around 100Hz.

With the subs on, the location is stable all through to 40Hz.

The stabilisation becomes firmer with the subs volume turned up a little more (from mid-point to about 2 o'clock); and the frequency cut-out (from 35Hz to 85Hz).

You can tell the LF tones are coming from the location of the subs all the way down to 40 Hz? So at 40 Hz and lower the LF tones seem to be coming from where?
