hey all I got a pair of KLH barons off craigslist for $30, I had no idea what to expect as I wasn't able to test them
from some research i've found that these are rebranded infinitys from late 70s/early 80s
they have the peerless 1" supertweeter and 1.5" dome midrange
These various drivers match the Infinity Quantum/QLS/Monitor II
next to genesis IIs
Theres some good things and bad.
One of the good things is one of the towers has the 100% original drivers and all of them work. Crossover def needs to be recapped but they sound great
bad things- in the second cabinet theres a replacement woofer from orange county, no idea if its the correct replacement
the 1.5" midrange is shot, it looks like both sides of the dome's exterior wires are clipped somewhere. I'm going to have to replace that.
midrange dome VC looks good still, apparently a consistent problem with these KLH/Infinity midrange dome tweeters has susceptibility for the tinsel wires to break, I've found like 2 guides on AK about DIY repair involving using part of the VC for tinsel leads
I think the original owner had messed with the crossover too, I'll update with pics later
The second cabinet midrange speaker leads werent even plugged in and there's nothing passing through them thats why i assumed the crossover has been modified.
Also the speaker with the "modified" crossover/replacement woofer seems to have a higher sensitivity, quite significantly
Chances are i'm not going to be able to repair the midrange as I'm quite inexperiened with this so If anyone knows of a company still selling these soft dome midranges please let me know, or if there is a midrange driver that is excellent I would be interested. These things sound awesome
BTW the specs of the midrange dome tweeter is 1-1/2" (3.8cm) Dome Midrange 450 to 5,000Hz
any advice/info welcome. It seems like there isn't much info on these, I had to go through a bunch of old threads to even find that some of the speaker components were infinity
so far this is the only thing that looks promising..
