How does one lose the grilles for something like that? Big box or cap style, they're not little dinky flat grill cloth grilles?
I sold ESS back in the day, liked the Amt-1's, but bought their bigger brother the AMT-3 rock monitors. All the ESS speakers with the Heil unit had a very nice presence.
Considering someone might get them for less than the asking price, it could be a good deal.
Nice deal, especially since the resurrected ESS can provide replacement parts to add many more years to them. No dinky AMT pretenders the size of a dome tweeter that seem to be permeating the modern market; a good AMT is a big AMT and no one does it as well as the granddaddy of them all.
The grill frames are very delicate to begin with also deteriorate with age, so you end up with a difficult to repair item that takes up a lot of space, so I'm sure a lot of them got tossed.
Really not hard to imagine the grills getting lost/tossed. When I got mine, the covers needed a serious reconstruction job. Probably not too difficult to make a new frame for them.
I'd contact ESS to see if they have any updated replacements for the driver. They seem to have some here. That could push performance up a notch more than refoaming the old drivers.
