I have mono...

I guess when it rains, it pours. My single-driver collection is growing faster than I can find amps to drive them!

I had been really impressed with the Altec 604 series in mono set-ups, but they are a bit out of my price range right now. However, I found this University 308, I think it will do fine as a stand-in for now.

I think I'd like to scale down a rear-loaded folded-horn cabinet to fit this guy, and try to get the bass extension a little lower. University rates it down to 70 hz.

Little early for a Christmas theme, id'nit Oz?
I have started sneezing/wheezing, which makes it officially Fall. I have a 4-year-old in the house, which makes Christmas RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER for me! :D

And, I thought I'd get a head start on wishing up some snow, we've had scant sign of that stuff lately, I'd like AT LEAST enough to make Snow Angels in!

Is that a 10" or 12"? I have plans for a 12" rear loaded horn, which would probably work OK with a 10".

You are going to replace that big old nasty looking cap?

I don't think we'll have any trouble getting him to replace the old one, getting him to actually throw it away once he's removed it... Well that's another thing altogether. :D

Great find Todd. I'm sure you will be very happy with that driver, and with Paul C. having plans for a bass cab you are on the way. Paul really knows his speakers and is more than generous when it come to sharing his knowledge.

Hifilit's scans are a little too old for the 308, but worth skimming if you've not seen them before:

Doesn't look like Telex has put up any of the older University literature:

I reckon the 308 is a 12"(?) I have a pair of early 6201's, but they're nothing to write home about.

That 308 would almost certainly benefit greatly from the replacement of that nasty-looking ol' XO cap.

Have fun! Save up for a 604B or two...

Sorry guys, but you're all wrong, it's an 8"! I know, I wish it were bigger too! And yes, mhardy, the hifilit page does have this driver on one of the catalog pages. I had actually already checked it out before I bought the driver.

With a quick test hook-up to my (excuse me, MY DAUGHTER'S) little Heathkit set to mono, this thing out-sings the AR4x I left hooked up to the other channel. (that my be an ohm rating thing - University says this is an "8 to 16 ohm", whatever they mean by that). The bass runs out quick, but the mids and highs POP through the little horn! I'm gonna play with it a bit, get a cab built for it, and just see how good I can get it to sound.

:sigh: And NO, Fotno, why would I throw away the cap??!?!? Gee! If nothing else, it will make a nice oil tank on my HO layout... :scratch2: :D
