I recently got a PM from an AKer asking me if "Radio People Limited" company still exists here in Hong Kong.
Researching it, I found their speakers mentioned in some threads here, like this one: http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2031&highlight=radio+people
I thought others might be interested in hearing what happened to the company, so I'm posting the info here.
Radio People Limited still exists. I had a chat with one of their employees. He told me that in their heyday, they sold over twenty different brands of audio gear in Hong Kong. As the market evolved and changed (became more competitive), they reduced the number of lines they carried, until today they are the sole agent for Bang & Olufsen in Hong Kong, and carry no other brands except B&O. They currently have five dedicated B&O showrooms around the city, supported by back office operations in another location.
I asked him if RPL used to build their own brand speakers using Wharfedale drivers, and he said he didn't know. It was possible, but he hadn't been with the company for enough years to know about that. Maybe someone in the head office would know [I'll bet the owners would!], but no one in the showroom did.
That's as much as I've learned up to now.
