Link please?--can't find it.

It's just about a total el-cheapo visual rip-off of a CR-1000--wonder what year it's from? I like the fact that the Volume Control looks like an input switch :D

It appears to have 5 frequency tone controls, and OOOOO...reverb!

Bizarre.

I wish they showed some pictures of the back. I'm dying to know who made this for Sears. Maybe Yamaha?:scratch2:

Thanks for the link. Even more bizarre...the grille on the top indicates some internal similarities with the CR-1000...says on the back panel that it's made for "Simpsons Sears Toronto Canada". It would be interesting to see what it looks like inside. I like the "Loudness Contour" switch :D

I wonder if Yamaha licensed some of its technology back then or if it's a total "knock-off". BTW the CR-1000 had FM only.

That was manufactured for sale in Canada. CSA approval, but no UL, and the French.

Simpsons-Sears was formed by a partnership between Robert Simpson's and Sears-Roebuck, to operate in Canada, dba Simpsons-Sears. When trade laws deregulated, and Robert Simpson's got purchased by the Hudson's Bay Company, Simpsons-Sears became Sears Canada, a separate entity from Sears, in the US. Sears Canada is usually abbreviated as "Sears', on the stores. The company is now undergoing a hostile takeover from Sears Holdings, in the US. Canadian shareholders are rejecting the bid.

Robert Simpson's stores have either closed, or are dba The Bay.

That looks too much like a CR-1000 not to be related, doesn't it? The someone that made this 80 wpc'er(edit: purportedly, 80!) for Sears must have been one of the "main guys", don't you think? And if so, why not Yamaha itself?

Even if it is not a Yamaha, I can't see how this rare bird wouldn't be very collectible to some - I can even think of a few folks at AK that might be interested.

PS! Love the blue lights!

Rgds,

Max power consumption is 250 watts. I think 80 WPC might be a tad optimistic. But its still a pretty cool piece. I'm hoping one of the techs who is familiar with these sees this and fills us in on the manufacturer.

i had one of those when i was around 14 or 15 yrs old.i had a uncle that used to buy stuff from the clearence dept and get returns that he was allowed to buy and then resell as long as it was out of town.needless to say i've landed up with alot of seas branded electronics and such.compared to most the other gear that they sold at the time tthat was out it sure sounded good to my virgin ears when i owned one.id love to get another striclty for nostalgia purposes but money is tight right now otherwise i'd be all over that one.thanks for the link.
