1 Curbed Altec 846B Speaker !!!

I wonder if I could crate these up and send them to you? Food for thought. All these Valencias really need is a tube amp and a good source of music and you're done!

The 3500's are on a holding pattern at the moment. I got some steady part time work that's allowing us to eat, but I haven't had enough to buy sand paper yet. And it kinda wrenches the psyche to spend your days going from hand to mouth. When I hit the 3500's, I need to be focussed. It'll happen any day now, I can feel it. It would have happened today, but kinda was waiting for the guy to look at the speakers today. He's a no show at the moment, feh.

xo, Biggles

Kinda sucks. They will sell. The right person who knows what they are and appreciates their history and your hard work will grab them.

Hang in there mang.

For a total restoration you need repros of the original foam grilles used on the Valencias which are available (see pics).

I know funds are tight, but that may be the final push some buyer needs to give you what they are truly worth.

That web site has a page talking about their major backlog. They're trying to find new production facilities. Not a very promising situation ...

I couldn't agree more. When I saw those pictures, then the web site I knew immediately what needed to be done. By the looks of things, I'm going to have these Valencias for a long time. Kinda exciting really.

I dunno. At least they're willing to admit they're having problems and searching for a solution. If they can get that nailed, another small business gets its wings! How awesome would that be?

It would be awesome, sure, and I'm rooting for them. My only point is, I wouldn't order those grills in hopes of getting them soon, and using them soon to sell the Valencias. It could be a few months before you got them, is my guess.

Maybe best to contact them to find out the "skinny" right from the horse's mouth as they say?

Hmmm, site says something about looking for a partner - might be quite a business opportunity for someone.

If I had the cash, I'd order them right away. And I would order those orange foam grills for my L26's. I'd want to let them know what they're doing is wanted and needed. I'm patient! Besides, the sooner I order them the sooner they'll arrive. But since I cannot do it at this moment in time, I'll just lurk and see how they're business plan works out. Who knows, once everyone gets what they need, their orders may just dry up and go away.

As far as partners go, that sounds like they're looking for money and/or a new facility. I hope they get it soon.

They make orange foam grills for the L26? Dang; you're killing me. Do they have photos?

Or is that just something you'd have them make custom for you?

Hi Dr Biggles I really appreciate the offer to possibly ship those speakers to me but I think It is a journey too far. The shipping would be brutally expensive. Hang in there bro a local buyer will get those gems. Also the risk of damaging those awesome cabs from shipping would be too great.

I'm seeing only L100s, but they might make them custom for other speakers.

Ahhh, gotcha. I'm not too familiar with JBL's fine products. I have those L26's that I'm working on and saw those orange foam grills and saw my pair sportin' them.

In any case, it looks as though if they can pull off a larger facility and find that partner, they will be doing far more than just what's on their web site at the moment. Wouldn't that be peachy?

Guy that called last week, was supposed to be here Saturday, just called. He's on his way, going to take him an hour and 40 to get here.

Cross yer fangers!

According to the proprieter , he has the sales (and cash flow) - just needs (at least or for starters) a working, on-site partner to help turn out product! ... = a  J.O.B.! - what's that??

Yes they do.
Also he has other innovative products to bring to market once he gets the grilles fully marketed.

Sounds kinda like a Bill Gates or Henry Ford (or Henry Kloss or Jim Lansing?) working out of his garage many years (and $$) ago! :thmbsp:
