2SA1106N Substitution

I'm looking to replace a 2SA1106N/2SC2581N pair. 2SA1695/2SC4468 and Toshiba 2SA1962/2SC5242 have been recommended as substitutes.

I'd like to use the Toshibas because they are readily available but they are higher frequency. I can't find a valid spec sheet for the A1106 so I don't know it's frequency. The A1695 shows it is a 20MHz transistor. The Toshibas are 30MHz. Is this going to create an issue? I plan to change out the whole set in the receiver.

That's in the ball park. How close do the replacements need to be? They're going into a Sansui G-771 (Black faced G-7700).

The word is, if the equipment in question is known to need the special high frequency replacements, because it is classed as a 'fast' amp, then it is strongly advised to fit the faster types. Because you may notice the difference - if not audibly - then with a test equipment specification check after repair.

If it is not a 'fast' amp then no advantage is gained from fitting fast output replacements - and it may actually be harmful to do so as it may make the amp unstable. AFAIK the G-771 is not in the 'fast' category, but as always it is advisable to seek the closest replacements possible.

The recent 'EW' thread on the new TO-3 replacements is an excellent read in this regard.

I saw EW's thread. Very informative. It's what got me thinking about these replacements. Sanken lists the 2SA1695/2SC4468 as current part numbers but neither Digikey or Mouser carry Sanken products. They do carry ST products. Digikey lists STA1695 which looks like a direct replacement. Mouser doesn't carry that one but does have STA2120 which looks like a more robust transistor.

Those are 30 MHz transistors. Any problem using them when the originals were 20MHz?

I saw those at BD. They are subbing them to A1695/C4468 but they are current Sanken parts. Those OnSemi divices look really robust but the package is a little different and they are almost twice the cost of the Toshibas.

How do you figure there twice the cost? They are $2.83 ea. at Mouser. As far as the package goes they will work just fine.

Mouser also has these OnSemi devices NJW3281G (NPN) NJW1302G (PNP). They are a closer match, have the right case configuration and are dirt cheap, $1.70 each!

I do alot more business with Mouser than Digikey.Looks like they will do the job nicely.I've used NJW's on a G-4700 as well as a couple Yamaha's and they worked fine. And the price is right.
