4343 cross over Q. TAD Woofers too big

Nyjblbob

Hooked on Horn's and Tubes. Go big or go home
Today I wanted to try out a pair of Tad Alnico 1602 Or 1603 Foam edge Woofers I have in my 4343’s. Well no good ,The frames are too big to get the clamps to fit .
They will go to Barter T
Any way I already took the 2231a out of the speaker with the compromised Xover that is allowing Bass to the mid horn.
So it’s a good time to look at the Xover.
Obviously some of the Caps were changed.
I didn’t check the other speaker Xover that is working fine .I took a few Pics.
Any thoughts?

There are big caps sink in potting wax in the bottom of the steel box. They are electrolytic cans. Good chance one of those has quit..
Hold on , bass getting to the horn ?
Something is well out there perhaps a short in the rats nest wiring .

Thank you for your response.
can you suggest the best replacement and source to get them back up to spec?
I have read of Zilch being the go to guy Xovers?
Its been 30 Years since I even picked up a Soldering iron.

Zilch passed on about 5 years ago if not more. His legend lives on in the Econowave thread. Impressive legacy
Are you sure it's LF that's getting to the comp driver. Reason I say that is it should not even reproduce LF that you would hear it.
First thing. till you get down to the root of the problem no more music thru the unit in question.
Next you need to get the X/O out of the cabinet.
Next you need the proper schematic for your version of 4343.
If you have the bi amp switch that will isolate the woofer from the rest of the X/O actually do this with the crossover in place. Play a little music , if the bleed through that you hear is still there then it's coming from the mid bass section.
Or there is a blocking cap that ain't right any more in the high pass filter for the comp driver

You do need to visit with the folks over at LH. There are plenty over there that know the 4343 and 4345 backwards and upside down.

4315 I Had .Same designer but not the same.

Look for any touching wires or caps that look leaky or wrong in any way.
That might give you a start.

Thank you so much.
That speaker has been out of service for 2 months.
I will try the Biamp test.

You may want to reconsider and find a way to make the TADs fit. From what I understand, it is a better woofer than the JBL and probably in higher demand if all original.

Thanks,
Yeah I know, I might try them in my 3 way EN5
Cabs. They are not as Valuable as the 4343’s.
They do fit in the same Woofer cutouts. Been wanting to put Clamps in them any way.
