7" Reel to Reel Tape Box Insert

Has anyone ever seen these plastic inserts for 7" reel to reel tape boxes? They seem to be a great idea as they stop the tape reel moving about in the box which leads to seam splits. This is the only one I have in my entire collection.

I've got 50-75 tapes here and none of them have that. Drives me nuts when you open up a box and there's 6 feet of tape that you've gotta put back on the reel!

I would not be surprised if it is a plastic tray from some other perhaps not audio related tape box....(i.e. medical back up tapes,etc)...I have about 100 factory reels and never seen it either.

Or more likely perhaps it was from a blank reel to reel tape manufacturer....i.e. Shamrock, etc.

Robbins (tape splicers) used to make plastic clips that'd go onto the reel and hold the tape leader in place, preventing unraveling.

I've got a bunch of those, some new tapes used them too, as I've pulled some NOS tapes out of boxes that still had a clip on the end.
