It has taken a long time to get this far. I want to thank all those who have helped along the way. Not done yet but progress. Here what was done so far:
  • System was completely hand cleaned and wiped inside and out. This unit has been in the family since the late 70's
  • All electrolytic capacitors, except the two large filter ones, have been replaced
  • A new 2624 board was built and basis was set
  • All lamps were replace with LEDs
  • The ribbon cable was replaced and all pass-through were reflowed.
  • Removed pre-out jumper from main and sent 1KHz tone via the mains. Tone on both channels no issues.
When the system in turned comes out of protection mode no problem. I get clear sound out of both channels but it is very low volume. What would be causing this?

Does the problem occur on all inputs?

You will have to inject that 1khz signal into an input, like aux, and trace it through the preamp.

Are you 100% sure the amp in was working? Can you connect a source with a level control to main in?
