A bang olufsen turntable amplifier sounding way better than a Sony TA 1120 ...im so blue.

Hi all. As you may have noticed i had a sony TA 1120 going out of my home for damage repairs and full restoration ,about a year ago . I had read about this particular model on a vintage equipment website with all favours to its sound quality .
I decided i should get an 1120 if it ever comes by.
When it was reviewed there was no component working except the transformer .
The tech did a great job replacing every part needed.
We did have trouble finding the right transistors . Alas every transistor we checked was fake . Finally the 3442s and some 3055 were purchased . They are old and pulled out .
Now it has Chinese made fake 15003 - 15004 npn transistors in place working and the tech is making his comments against this amp.
I know thats not fair to comment on a sound signature with fake transistors but while this thing was in process i got another amplifier from bang olufsen 1800 beocenter without its top turntable . I gave it a brief listen and absolutely fell in love with it though it was never repaired or recapped . I sent the BnO to him ...now he loves the bang olufsen and rates it very highly.

I want the 1120 to perform well enough and be there with top tiers. However i have to convince him to do this tiring ordeal to remove the boards and place the 2N3442 transistors which are original.

Now my question is , is this final step going to make a difference .

Aah....
I forgot to mention the bang olufsen got blown due to loose contacts . Its one side transistors were replaced with tip 122 and 137 .
They were not confirmingly original transistors . But it sounded awesome

and even with these sort of fake /non original ones the amp sounded beautiful and engaging like no other

The sony 1120 has 2SA299 transistors at driver stage .
They were blown in this sony already.
The tech had replaced em with pull ouy transistors from a vintage pioneer whuch were 2SA1306 and 2SC 3298...

The driver stage transistors and the out put stage transistors have a strong bearing on the final sonic signature ....is that right .....?

So does the Sony still have the counterfeit MJ15003/004's as outputs? If so l would be trying to source something else.

These can't be the drivers, think it must be a number similar. BTW don't be too surprised by the B&O 70's gear, l have some Beomasters here that sound pretty darn good.

My tech hasnt opened up the back plate upon which the 15003s were installed a year ago.
The 3442s will be used in a couple ov days

Ahh fair enough. Normally l would say that changing the outputs won't have that great of an effect on the sound, although in this case with the current ones being knock offs then anything is possible. It is more about matching the replacement parts as closely as possible to the originals that the unit left the factory with. BTW those drivers 2SA1306 and 2SC3298 should work well.

Those 2N3055's are underspeced as replacements for the original 2SD45's and the 2N3442's have a very high ft, too high to replace the 2SD45's.

Is this model a quasi complementary or full complementary design (ie are all outputs the same?) I haven't had a chance to pull up the SM.

Drivers that could also be used are KSC2690 and KSA1220. Outputs that could also be used are MJ21193G and MJ21194G. Is it easy for you to source genuine parts in Pakistan, ie do Mouser, Digikey, Farnell etc ship to you?
