So I was monkeying with the LED lights this weekend on my 2220. Previous to that, I added a 75 ohm coax antenna jack, removed the interior 300 ohm ladder wire and replaced it with some 75 ohm coax (going from the new 75 ohm jack to the front end board mounting posts).
I also removed the 10.7 mhz ceramic filters (two of them) from th FM IF board, installed sockets, and installed some new, narrower filters.
All of the above mods helped improve my reception and my adjacent channel rejection, (BTW, I have a DIY J-pole in the attic), but the 2220 just did not seem to pull things in like my other receivers (some modded like above, some not).
Anyways, while messing with some LED lights this weekend, I accidently tapped one of the tuner cap screws (the ones on top of the vari-cap that your not supposed to mess with) with a slippery screw driver, and after I powered the unit back up, my reception seemed to improve.
So, with the receiver on and tuned into a station, I tapped the screws again. Instant better reception!. Hhmm. So I marked all 4 screw relative to their position, turned each screw a hair, and turned them back to their original location. Tada! Reception improved about 1/3rd. Plus the 1/3rd reception improvement from the mods I did, and now I am pulling in just as good as the other receivers I have, and even better than my non moded receivers.
So, I guess I had oxidization on the screws or something, I really don't know. All I know is my reception issue is resolved. I am certian the screws are in their original positions. I am not advocating anyone messing with these screws, as I would have never touched them except for the "accidental slip". I have not monkeyed with those screws on any of my other receivers, as I know this is a big no no.
Just thought I would mention it in case someone has or had a similiar problem/situation. Rememeber messing with those screws will hurt more than it will help, but... YD
