Picked these up today as part of an Onkyo Stereo for sale ad. Also got a809 integrated amp, t407 tuner and and 6 disc changer (loaded with xmas music) and tape player and a set of labtec headphones.

Very nice sounding speakers, perhaps a bit of a small sweet spot but I don't think I'm far enough away. Not much direct listening yet, but they certainly dig deep and hit the bass hard when called for.


Funny think though, only identifying mark on them as AR are a small 1x2 white factory sticker with the model and serial numbers. Consecutive by the way 1017-1018. I wonder how many total were made?

Wow those look great! I never heard an AR I didn't like- I bet those sound amazing:music:
 
I think what I'm liking best about these is how the bass drum sounds in rock, also the low notes with a stand up bass just expand.
 
Very nice pickup.
They are well built with heavy well braced cabinets, cast baskets on all the drivers and quality components.
Plus the fact they sound nice and deliver a well balanced detailed presentation.
I don't notice any demanding narrow sweet spot.
Recommended speaker placement is 3 feet off the front and side walls.
They are speced at 88db sensitivity so a high current SS amplifier would help them sing.

It's got some good depth too on the sound stage. I have an Sony SACD sampler that I always demo with Willie Nelson Stardust, and these do it about as well as anything else, but a good disappearing act. Mids are nice too, female vocals well, but if your making a TOTL speaker i think thats one thing you just never ignore.

They are amost 30" off the sides but I have the pushed back to give more distance to my position, about 10 feet away or so.
 
Thanks Tubed, thats about 1 or 3 sources of info online about these guys. I've keep listening to them this weekend, with a few minutes of loud listening. One thing I have noticed different from all my other speakers in about the exact same location, is I don't get a nasty reflection when I'm sitting at my computer on the other end of the room. They have a really nice back ground presentation, some speakers do not, but these do.
 
I'm waxing because I sold them. A set of classic 18's has been on CL for a year now, but the seller has an optimistic price with an unflattering photo and limited description. He knows what they are worth. :) If closer to market I'd buy them, but not yet.

I sold mine when I bought some IMF's, which I do not regret at all, the TL bass is addictive and works well with my listening levels.
