ADC-1 cartridge

A friend dropped off an AKAI AP-101c turntable for me today.

It came with a rather unusual cartridge on it, the ADC-1, from the early 1960s. I wonder if I can find a new stylus for this one?

Doubtful. Your best bet is probably a retip if the suspension is still viable. As you're probably aware, this was Peter Pritchard's first cartridge after he left GE and one of the first meant to track at less than 1 gram. I'm fortunate to have a "never used" (long story) one in it's original packaging. After some break-in the suspension loosened up and it sounds wonderful. I think it would make a terrific match with my AR XA.

A wonderful cartridge. As it happens, back a million years ago I owned an AR (single motor) with an ADC-3, a lower priced version of the 1. Had it a few years, until I moved on to a Miracord 50H with...something. Can't recall. But the ADC surely wasn't suited for record changers.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have a good look at this one and possibly play it. The table came from a good friend who takes care of her stuff but of course it's an unknown so far.

I had a look tonight at the stylus under my handheld scope and the 200x Bausch & Lomb and it seems pretty good. The suspension seems pliable too. I`m going to give it a test ride soon.

I finally got around to auditioning the ADC and it seems pretty good so far. Here it is tracking at 1 gram on a warped as-is record.

You may want to up the VTF to about 1 1/2 grams with that Technics arm (it sure looks like a Technics arm) according to the literature that came with the cart.
