ADC Sound Shaper Three Equalizer

Resurrecting an old thread and EQ.
I also have a ADC SS3 I purchased new back in 198? After starting the old system up again this week my SS3 also has the tapping sound coming from the right channel. Sometimes it takes a while to start. It almost sounds like a spark jump or a static spark. It stops when the Bypass switch is engaged. Anybody have any idea what to look at or replace before I have to send her to the hay loft in the barn ?
:tears:

Got the same problem on mine after 10 years in the dust. I arrived here tonight to find a solution, and I don't, but I find myself...

So, you need:
- 150 bucks
- A car
- 3 months
- A good repairman

or:
- A contact bomb (or anti scratch: near the same product, but better)
- 30 minutes of your time.

The problem come from the low switches line (3 positions switches under the faders). There is oxydation, and I suppose there is somewhere a condensator that can't work properly with this bad contacts. So put anti scratch anywhere on this line (with a little tube to pass the holes in the front side) and move the three position switches up and down (24: I know it's long). Let it dry. You can do the same with the other switches, it can't be bad.
Put the EQ on the amp line, with a low volume. Move the first switch of the low line up and down, and continue to do it till the sound doesn't scratch. Do the same for The 23 next.
When it's done, put the volume up: normally no tapping, no blow: just a nice withe sound. If not, goto line 1. :o)

I think it could help. (for the english quality, don't be cruel: I'm french...)

I have or have had Pioneer SG-9500/9800 and ADC SS TEN/SS 215.
Pioneers are all long but I still use an ADC SS 215 because I like how it looks as well as operates over the Pioneers! I use to have stacks of Pioneer Stuff over the yrs then switched to Marantz but now I have a main stack or hodgepodge consisting of all different Brands of Equipment because to me that's real Vintage just as much as the Major Brands I use to have. Not as pricy that's for sure but just as good overall than the others more well known:)

Hey! I know this is an old thread, but I have an ADC Sound Shaper Three as well, and I always wondered what the hell the SLM jack on the lower-right of the front panel was for. Any ideas? :dunno:
It was for an optional sound meter so you could make the room flat.
I still have my ss3, that I bought new. I think I paid $400 for it.

Had one of these come in to me and found that the power supply needed a recap and the D330 and B514
transistors were bad.
I had both of those in my stock so replaced them. Now works!
Main question to anybody who has worked on one of these;
The D330 & B514 seem quite hot. - Is there a better replacement for those or just throw heatsinks on them?

Update: I added heatsinks to the D330 & B514 and running the EQ via DBT and after a half hour and the temps are between 125 and 137f.
Sound about right?
(these are in the power supply section)

Produces a lovely warm sound

I know this is an old thread but on the chance - did you ever find a service manual for the SS3 IC? This one in particular is impossible to locate. I just spent two hours scanning and uploading a clean copy of the owner's manual and hi res schematic. Here's to hoping... ;)
Long Live the ADC SS3. I'm looking for the Service Manual if anyone knows where I can get one of those, I have one "needin' a cleanin'". It's not bad but I'm sure it's due. May be what Alexache needs, assuming there not broke. Can't believe this post is 5 years old and still going, way cool ADC. This EQ has always been one of my favorites, listening to it right now. :music: Any help on SM would be great, thanks all
