Adcom system

I have an opportunity to buy an Adcom 3-component stereo system for $450. It is used but in great shape, and consists of the GFA 555 amp, the GTP450 receiver, and the GCD 575 CD player. Is this a good deal? Would this be a substantial improvement, or any improvement at all, over my current configuration, which is a CC4401 Marantz CD changed and an Outlaw Audio RR2150 receiver? How might the Adcom pair with my Klipsch RB-61 speakers? With my Paradigm 3se Minis?

Thanks,
Todd

It's through a private party that I know. Do you think this system is an improvement over my current one?
Thanks

its an OK deal - maybe a little more than what you could sell it for on that site... - the amp is a brute and will drive pretty much anything - it will have a very good bass/mid bass and the mid/highs will be decent - it will be over kill for the Klipsch.....

You'll be stepping back in time about 20 years, for one thing. If you can audition in-home, I would.

No phono...

I have a database of various gear prices, and I see the range on EBay for these pieces to be...

GFA-555: $275-$375 (+$50 if GFA-555II)
GTP-450: $75-$150
GCD-575: $125-$200

So the range for these three would be $475-$725. As always, cosmetic and functional condition affect the value, but this seems like a decent price.

I am not very familiar with the GTP-450. Although I own a GTP-500II I am not a big fan of the Adcom Preamp/Tuners. I am a big fan of the GCD-575. One nice feature is its variable output which allows you to connect it directly to a power-amp. I use such a system in my livingroom with the GCD-575 feeding directly into a GFA-545II power amp.

There is plenty written on the GFA-555. It is a solid performer, great bass, slighty grainy high-end (which is actually desirable if you have speakers with a muted top-end).

The GTP series preamp tuners are very nice, and you can DL the owners manuals from the Adcom website. The amp is pretty much superb. I know people love the sound of the GCD, although reliability comments have been mixed. Some of the Adcom GTP series had Class A Phono preamps, but you will need to check (I think the 400 did and the 450 did not). Adcom is fairly plain looking but very well engineered gear. Spend the leftover money on a nice audio cabinet.

I have a GTP-450 and think its an excellent preamp. The GFA-555 is a huge amp for those RB-61s. I have RB-35s and run them off of a T-amp.
