The listing says the outboard speaker has it's own separate amp, kinda like a Fisher ST-610 + 30-A type set up. Also says it's fully functional.

Anyone wanna guess what's in these pieces? Seller wants 70 clams, and that's getting up to the very top of what I'd shell out for a console.

However, if it got's some nice toobs inside, it might be worth it....:scratch2:

I know nothing of Admiral consoles, but it look interesting to me...... like it may be old enough to be tube. I think having one channel in a separate cabinet is more likely to be had in a tube console.

I can't speak to your trouble threshold.

It's guaranteed to be tubes. I guess what I'm looking for is anyone with knowledge or experience with this type of Admiral setup....:scratch2:

AA, I'd assess it this way -

Rather than look at whether or not the console is a good deal @ $70, I would go see it and check what tubes are in it. If it does have good Amperex tubes (Ampex?), 2 pairs of identical power tubes and a couple 12AX7's easily exceed the asking price in value. If you have a tube tester, take it along.

I would also look at the output & power transformers on the inboard & outboard amplifier units. If they are both the same then you have the basis for 2 matched monoblocks. Factor in that there is likely room on the price and you could end up with a very sweet deal.

I looked at this very console over Thanksgiving, but did not buy it. Pretty sure it's an EL-84 push/pull. One part of the amp is in the main console, the other is in the speaker. The main amp is a part of the receiver, did not look at the outboard amp. It was cool but I did not want to lug it back to Jersey.

I don't remember which tube brands it had, but I'm pretty sure they were RCA or GE. The back is not fully covered so it's easy to check.

The guy has an old BSA bike in his living room, just seeing it was worth the trip.
