Ok

I have a couple ADS speakers with metal grills need some real love. (a pair of L990's and L1290 series I the grills are trashed... but I also have 1290s with beautiful grills and after looking at these for some time i decided hey .. i have a long metal break ..

if i could find the material i could build beautiful replacements for these pretty easily EXCEPT I do not even know what to start and search for on my quest

Who would carry such a thing and what the heck would it be called .. ... Being in the greater Detroit area I am sure there is some type of a local provider .. there is a LOT of steel being used around here.

So it looks like a Perforated metal with round holes and the maximum open area possible (in the case of McNicols Products that would be 63%ish) now if i can just get it in an anodized black or something cool

At least that means i can start looking for competitors to McNichols and dig around thanks Beatnik

Martineaux,

I have not. I have a friend with a metal break and I was able to successfully replace some of the metal on the outside of a pair of B&O Penta's so I am sure i can do the 1290s (they will be easier) but I got busy and gave up the search for the metal. The metal break and bending is pretty easy all things considered, one could even make "designer" grills pretty easy i suspect

I've had a few pair of bent metal ads grilles and just did some smoothing of the bends and dents with hammer and wood blocks. Came out great. But if they are ripped...

Am I glad to see this. I posted an inquiry about grille dents on the A/D/S section of CSP months ago and never got any replies. My 880's look pretty shabby. I've tried rolling them with a heavy bearing race against a wood block and didn't get much satisfaction. What is the material used behind the grille screens ? Repainting them would close it off completely. Replace it with ? Or do without ? I considered floating a piece of expanded metal on posts just for protection. Like to hear what others do about this common problem.

I was going to go looking for some black anodized type of metal or something with holes and powder coated material .. i dont think painting will work ... as for the thin felt like material behind the metal that i have no idea what to do with, many people removed it but i suspect it has some use,
