I understand the fluid thing, but there is no fluid in the 1290 series 1 mid.
check out his website and see what you think, you can email him. I have emailed himIs Richard So freshly manufacturing these or is he using old stock![]()
Yeah, I think I saw something about them being sort of a greenish opaque. He uses new stuff, the new domes are clear instead of black...he rebuilt my mids, tweets, and crossovers
I should have asked, is he newly manufacturing stuff or is he using new old stock. He uses new stuff, the new domes are clear instead of black...he rebuilt my mids, tweets, and crossovers
I've always thought of them to be a "greenish opaque", never black.check out his website and see what you think, you can email him. I have emailed him

Just used Richard for the first time last week. Sent in the woofers from my Braun L300/8s to get refoamed. As per my request, he replaced the snapped off terminals on the woofers. One terminal was snapped on each woofer. He did so for no extra charge. I found this surprising considering he replaced all the terminals. Not just the broken ones. Woofers look great and were finished that same week. Fast, cost effective, and professional. I'll be using him again for sure.
I have heard both and to me the 1290 are very very balanced. The 1590 has way more punch and I prefer it but I can't see that you should be chagrined by them being one or the other given the $275 spent. You just can't go wrong either way. I own a pair of 1590 and 1090... the 1090 is also very balanced and has very tight bass. The 1590 just command attention when cranked up. They are like an amusement park ride. However, if I needed a more balanced and critical sound like vocals or jazz or the like... there is no question the 1290's are the sweet spot IMO with the 1090 not far behind minus the deeper bass. Crap, I am not sure if this help or not.. lolWhat do you suppose the speakers could be sold for rather, what are they worth... And...much to my chagrin, I realize are 1290s!
while there are some irregularities in the centers of the domes there are definitely no pattern to them no honeycomb that might indicate the grills made contact.View attachment 1702379
I also have a pair of (very beat up) output C speakers. one woofer is beat up but other is fine. One also needs a new terminal. I think those are next on my list of things to send to him. Should not cost much. It took me 4 years to find the L300/8s until a fellow friend/AK user Connor Griffen sent me the link to a fresh ebay auction of a pair for 175$. They are heavy things and ive read too many sob stories about pairs arriving in poor condition due to improper packing during shipping. So I hopped on the F train and picked them up in Brooklyn. Well worth it because shipping would have easily been 100$.I had the same problem when I sent Richard my Braun Compact C woofers
I had the same problem when I sent Richard my Braun Compact C woofers, he also replaced the terminal. Wow, you have a pair of L300/8, I have always wanted them. I have Compact C, L200 and 1002/8 which I will be sending the woofers to Richard shortly. Richard rebuilt all the drivers on my Compact C and L200, fantastic quality of work.
compare parts with this listAdditionally, I'm wondering if any of the mids and tweets are interchangeable between the first version of the L780s and the 1290s.
I'll add myself to the list of satisfied Richard So rebuild customers. He did all of the drivers in my L1530's, and there is a notable improvement, especially in the upper frequency extension. He found a handful of blemishes in the woofer surrounds and domes/tinsel leads from cat claws that I never noticed. They do look like giant scratching posts. I'm not sure how much this affected the sound before, but they sound better than they did before.
No, not the crossovers. I replaced the electrolytic with a big poly cap when I got the speakers, and I may replace some of the others one day, but I don't really feel the need to.Did you have him work on the crossovers as well?

I have heard that he is running low on parts.I've always thought of them to be a "greenish opaque", never black.
The implications of my question are if he really is manufacturing them and if there is a demand, future supply could be endless and that's a very good thing.
If not, he will run out.
Then again, depending on the manufacture date, are the drivers sitting in my L1530 any less new than the NOS parts sitting at Richard So's.
Yes, those conversations are basically deterring people from sending in their drivers automatically when they get a set of ADSs for that very parts supply getting low. The gist is to only send in your drivers if absolutely necessary because they were in really bad shape, or outright blown. This way there’s parts for those that really need their drivers repaired. Seems this is directed at tweeters and mids. You can check with Richard what he suggests and what’s running low.I have heard that he is running low on parts.
The guys on the Facebook page would be able to tell you more.
