Advent Maestro - worth it?

I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of Advent Maestro's for $50. Look to be in good shape - woofers are solid and the wood has no gouges or nicks. I haven't had the chance to listen to them. Are these worth the $50? Anyone have them - just how nice do they sound? Thank you!

For $50 I'd take them and give them a whirl. Most likely will need a woofer refoam. Have you seen them yet?

They are a very nice sounding Advent, but make sure the "doughnut" mid-ranges are functional, as they are a pain to find as replacements.

During the mid to late 80's, the Maestros were the top of the regular issue Advent food chain, the three way upgrade to the two way Legacy. As such, they were the heir to 1982's 6003 model, another 3 way system.

Decent kit. $50 is more than fair, even if needing foam.

But as mentioned- take heed and be sure the donut midranges work.

I gave them a quick visual look over and the woofers were intact but I'm not sure if they've been refoamed at some point or if everything is original. The midrange caps were pushed in a little but not too bad.

My other concern is that I've brought home 8 speakers in the past two weeks and last night I brought home an old Sansui receiver that someone was throwing out - I think if I brought home two more floor standing speakers my wife may lose it. :D
(unless of course I hid them in the garage for a while, hmmm...)

I can see this new hobby turning into a sickness.

That is what I thought about my wife - buy some music that she likes, show her how to run your system, she may get hooked like my wife did.

Eventually, you'll find things you like more than others and then it becomes something where you buy speakers, listen to them for awhile and learn about them, then decide if they are keepers or not. I guess my motto is "you can't keep it all" and I really don't want it all. Just what I like.
