Hey everyone, you know how we all spend a little each month on thrift store finds or a few mp3 downloads or beer? I think it's time to get our priorities straight. I don't know about you, but the first thing I do after firing up my computer is check AK for new posts. Not email or banking but AK. Think about how boring our lives would be without a place to geek out. We can't talk to family or friends about this stuff. They don't get it. We need to send these guys some cash! Once I've gotten through this tight time in my life I'm going to do just that. No more excuses. No more I'll do it latter. Do it now. You'll never miss a few dollars, but you would miss the AK family. Thanks.

Donating to AK is a great thing. I think that one of our members wrote that if even half of our members donated a few bucks now and then a big chunk of the server and maintenance costs could be covered.

The sponsors here are wonderful and very supportive. As the owner of a server used by many fewer users I can attest that the care and feeding of the server and those who work behind the scenes is a very expensive proposition. The never ending cycle of software upgrades and massive database coordination and maintenance is substantial too.

Yes indeed, AK is a great place and I have met and gotten to know many wonderful folks (and I haven't even started about why I came here in the first place...my passion for music and audio).

I agree, I became an AK subscriber to help support the costs of running this place. Server costs and bandwidth costs plus upgrades aren't free. Lets not forget the time given by the Admins and Mods here to help the place remain friendly and on track.

If your a Pioneer guy like myself, the Pioneer Database is well worth what I pay each year to remain a subscriber.

Well this is alot nicer than the last time, it was called "Donate or die"
But please dont tell folks to get their priorities straight during an economic melt down.... with jobs, 401k's, credit, housing is all a mess right now so some of us have survival priorities. Not saying this sint a good thing to do its just at this point in time I think the wording is in bad taste.

I noticed that, I am not against caring but times are tough.

Times are tough for AK too!

No pressure intended, as I truly understand about folks acting according to their own priorities and means, but you could demonstrate a bit more of a supportive and positive attitude about this.

Ak

A suggestion, when you get something you need, from another member, or from someone's timely post, consider the cost of that and send the value to the site.
An example, recently another member replied to an ad I had posted looking for a knob, his price was a $10 donation to the site.
I happily paid that cost, the member didn't want anyone to know about it, and even paid the shipping cost to my home, and would not allow me to repay that fee.
Certainly a win win situation, I got my knob, AK got a few needed bucks, the excellent member got a bunch of good Karma...
If he should happen to read this post I once again thank him for the part, and the lesson about the workings of Karma.

Sorry if I didnt come across supportive, I noted twice it was a good thing so I dont think I was unsupportive at all but reality is what it is and to suggest folks are not chiping in during tough times because they dont have prioritties straight was IMO bad wording.
I am just offering my opinion, nothing more and free sharing of ideas is what this site is about correct?

Donate or Die?

I must respectfully disagree with your post.
Nobody is twisting arms here, the site is an excellent resource for all things involved with personal audio entertainment.
The site incurs costs, yet is free. You don't have to send anything, it's not an absolute requirement to pay to come here, and get help, parts, opinions, or simply while away some time looking around...
It's a matter of personal responsibility to compensate the givers of things of value to you, either in barter, cash, or even simple thanks.
My priorities include fair compensation for anyone that provides such a service or material thing to me, be that a traded part, some cash, or a heartfelt thanks for anything I have received.I am not rich, but not destitute either, my audio gear is varied, but it's only here because I love the music I can listen to, AK makes this portion of my entertainment budget go farther.
There will always be folks that use these kind of resources and never add to the experience, they are users, I choose not to count myself in that group, and encourage others not to be.

Agree to disagree, you missing the point and turning a simple comment into an arguement and thats not the intention, I said it was bad wording plain and simple but was simple was twisted into something complex. We are all welcome to our opinions and I gave mine, there is no reason to get worked up about it. To make things right so I dont have to get sucked into a battle I will close by saying if you have the extra cash then by all means chip in for the valuable information you get here and if times are tough I pray things turn around for you.

I agree with you chadnliz. What I meant was that we all piss away cash on comparatively worthless items. When financially possible, we should without pain to our families, hook these guys up. And like I said, when I get out of the lean times I'm experiencing, I'm going to do just that. Interesting chat, no?

Chadnilz; You say "times are tough"? Wow you'd never know that by looking at your sig line. I'm unemployed right now so I do know just a little bit about tough times.

7 cents a day; comeon now. Don't even try not to justify 7 cents a day. I must admit I get a lot more enjoyment from this site than the tv which cost considerably more than 7 cents a day. Being a subscriber is a great deal and a no brainer imho.

I dont owe you or anyone a justification and generally a donation is a solicitation for funds if one feels inclined with no expectation either way.
My system has nothing to do with my income, I am disabled and on fixed income and anyones system doesnt qualify anything other than a love for music, times are tough all around and I fail to see why noting that has caused such a fuss. Many have things that were obtained for any number of reasons when times were better and the fact that gear is still around means nothing about how times are today.
I also dont like how this is starting to get framed in a way that should make anyone feel ashamed, pressured or mocked for no donation. Understanding many are in a struggle during these times is to me a no brainer just as a donation is a no brainer to you.
This has spun out of control, I never once said dont donate or that it wasnt a good idea, I noted several times this sites value and even suggested if one is in a position to donate then they should think about doing so....that seems pretty clear to me and I am starting to feel like further participation in this thread is a bad idea. Maybe I will be back and maybe I wont but I have been very clear if you read carefully I think you will see that aswell.

I'm sorry Chadnilz, if you misunderstood my post, simply put this place is a good deal for all, and if all participated in it's care and upkeep it would even be better.
motorstereo, sorry to hear you've lost your job, if there's anything I can do to help please let me know.

OK, enough. The original poster started out with a nice thought. One more post directed at other members, from whichever side, and there will be consequences, including the closing of this thread.

Thanks and no worries:music:

Not trying to pressure anyone; I ain't selling anything just telling it like it is. Nosirrah I appreciate your kind offer. The best thing going hands down during my unemployment status is this site. You've already participated in helping and I thank you.
Chadnilz; sorry to hear your plight and I certainly meant no harm to you or anyone else. I guess I should feel blessed which I am to be able to afford 7 cents a day.

Gotta say I'm deeply disappointed that a thread on this topic can get to this point.

AK is free. It will always be. If folks can donate and want to then please do. If you don't no one is twisting arms.

Chad you do seem to have a history of criticizing anyone for even the mere suggestion of donating to AK. Please forgive others for noticing.

Sadly I'll close this post so we can all get back to enjoying why were here.
