Akai reel to reel ???

Yo guys,
I'm looking to dip my toe into getting reel to reel. As from the kid, I've always wanted one, so I fancy an Akai reel to reel. What's your opinion on which models to get, and which to avoid.
FYI, I still have to convince my missus to one. I've so far got away with my vintage setup, as it's hidden in the sideboard. So it's going to take some convincing to have a reel to reel on show

Look for a model with push button switches to operate the mechanism, rather than the ones with levers. The ones with the levers have idler wheels that need to be rebuilt at $60 each. The push button operated (3 motor full logic) are more reliable with better performance.
You will have to replace a bunch of noisy transistors. Once that is done the unit will be reliable with excellent sound. The pinch roller will probably need to be rebuilt. The deck will probably need to be calibrated to get original performance out of it. If you can't do these things yourself, expect to spend a few hundred dollars on repairs.

Your profile says "from Scotland" does that mean your are "In Scotland"? In which case this might be a little pricey to ship
