Allow Me To Introduce Myself

The Vintage Guy
Hey Audiokarmics,

Grundigjunki here - should have been Grundigjunkie but I guess 12 letters is the max for usernames on here.

A little about me: I've been tinkering with vintage audio equipment since I was a teenager (my first project was the restoration of a 1937 Rock-Ola Rhythm King jukebox back in about 1977...) and just LOVE the vintage stuff. I'm extremely partial to Grundig consoles. Have owned 4 of them in recent years. I currently have a Grundig 9070 in storage and a Grundig 8095 in my apartment. Love those things! And vintage tube TV's are another passion of mine. Sometime soon I'm going to have to find a larger apartment to house my collections.

One thing I'm not really adept at is the electronics repair... I'd love to learn more about recapping tube amps and the fine art of making a good solder joint. Not my strong suit at this time. The mechanical stuff I'm great at, I can make my way around a schematic, and I do pretty well with the refurbishing of cabinetry. Anybody in the LA area want to take an electronics greenhorn under their wing?

I live in Los Angeles (the greatest city on earth). Love it here! Anyone else on here from the Atwater Village area?

Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving and here's to a wonderful holiday season!

Welcome to AK.

As for your handle, there seem to be a few members with user names longer than the twelve letters you mention, so you could perhaps approach one of the Mods regarding this issue, if indeed it is an issue to you.

Thank you all :-) It's nice to be so well received.

I should have mentioned I'm a long-time lurker (I guess that's your term for those who peiodically visit with the intention of absorbing some sort of knowledge without committing to being a member). And thanks, Ausjoe, for the link... I'm familiar with the concepts of recapping but my few attempts at doing it have produced less than stellar results (in fact I have a couple of small old radios that now need un-screwing-up, lol). Some day I am sure I'll get the hang of it if indeed practice makes perfect, but it goes without saying that a mentor along the way would go far toward that goal :-)

Cheers to you all, and I hope to enjoy a long fruitful experience at AK. You guys are a great bunch. Happy holidays!

Welcome Grundigjunkie!

Do you like Grundig Vintage? There is a lot of Grundig Vintage here in Germany, you can find on scrap yard and junk place. :tears:
