Just got this back from the graphics shop. The final step (for now...) for my SP14 preamp kit. Will be doing the final (re)assembly tomorrow. Well, I hope final.

Sweet! Who made the plates?

I got the chassis from a local supplier vt4c.com and had it cnc routed by a friend. The design was roughed up by me, then a graphic designer I know did it up in Adobe Illustrator and drew up the logo. I have a warped sense of humour hence some of the graphics. Sent it off to a local company to be UV printed. For anyone in Hong Kong I can recommend Jet T Technology.

There are some pictures in another thread http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/vta-sp14.660371/ where several of us have built them. It's taken me some time as I have been really busy with other stuff. Will post some more pics as I put it back together. Was aiming for today but that's now not looking promising ...

I noticed VTA is only selling the PH-12 phono board now. I have the PH-10, same board as the PH-12 but uses 12au7's. Ill be watching to see how your SP14 turns out.

Those look great! Love the "On" "Not On" :)
Thanks. I was going to have "Not Much" and "Lots" on the Gain pots but decided that was a bit over the top.

You may also notice my pre amp is louder than Spinal Tap's amps ...

Looking great! I like the lettering. Love the "noise" control. This is sure to give me and others ideas.

Step by step. Trying to get it done between other stuff that is urgent (to other people). Might get a bit of solder on it today. Maybe.

Well, got a bit of solder slung, going to carve out some time tomorrow morning (he says hopefully).

And it lives. And it sounds great. Currently listening to some Schubert string quartets. There is a richness there that I am loving. And this is with cheap Tung Sol tubes (ignore the Sylvania sleeves, it's a ruse) . Going to button it up and put some NOS Sylvanias in after it's run for a few more hours.

So much better than the preamp I was using before.

Did I say it sounds good? Oh boy.

Very nice! Love the silver knobs. The pre I built is black with silver knobs. Im a silver face kind of guy but the silver on black just pops! And you have the right amp too. What power tubes you running in yours? Running KT88's In mine right now. Still on the fence between 77's and 88's. The preamp looks like a keeper!

6CA7's Old ones from the former Yugoslavia that I got from someone here. Nice tubes. Good controlled low end on them.
