Altec 614 Build

Hey guys, recently contracted a local woodworker/artist to construct me a pair of 614 cabinets using the original plans. He just sent me a rendering of the enclosure to double check that everything was right before he started construction. Because I've never seen a pair in person I thought I'd throw the image up here to see what anyone with more experience thought, thanks.

If I've done the math right, it looks like you will have approximately 4 cubic feet volume. Which woofer/horn combo will you be using in this build?

What exactly do you have in mind for this speaker? Mains, monitors, nostalgia? Do you already own the drivers?

We just need to know a little about what you want to achieve in the finished project.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'll be using 807-8a or 802-8d drivers with gpa 1200-8b crossover and gpa 414 drivers. These will be my main speakers.

Hopefully you've already taken possession of the necessary GPA parts ( 414's & network ).

Otherwise I speculate your project is in jeopardy.

Why? GPA has recently nearly tripled their prices ( at least for woofers ).

:)

That's right. And I suspect that the number of "new" Altec builds will now come to a screeching halt. And you can be sure that the already-crazy prices for popular used Altec components will rapidly seek a new ceiling. (One thing is certain: manufacturers who chose GPA/Altec for their drivers may now be forced to look elsewhere for components.)

Here's hoping that whatever is happening at GPA will eventually result in a world-class product with a cherished name and fair pricing.
