Altec Iconic

Hello. This is my second thread I have started. These Altec Iconic speakers have been sitting in an Estate sale place near me for a while now. I’m not finding these speakers on Web anywhere. Just wondering if someone could Identify them as far as model and age and possibly a fair price. They guarantee them and cabinets would clean up very nice although not my style of vintage speaker. Also what system would these have been meant to be driven with and what Wattage. Thanks. Randy....

See those screws on the back. Ask them if you could open them up to see what's inside. Go from there.

Altec Flamenco I believe. Model 848A, 16 ohm. Similar to Valencia 846A except for the looks. Excellent speakers! The Altec experts will chime in soon and will correct me if I'm wrong!

Art Dudley, a reviewer from Stereophile, loves his Flamenco's (check out from 1:44)

So I guess they're are pretty good. From 1966

oh god, the Moroccan grill model!
Honestly, the 60s will never die!

[Take off the grills and save them - they have good resale value to collectors]
Fortunately, the speakers inside sound really good!

I miss the clothing. At any time one could be called upon to be a Star Trek extra...

Sort of. Are these the Valencia model then. And what should they be worth in descent working order?
Value depends on the market - the speakers inside should be great, but those grills have a really dated look that may kill resale, except in the collectors' markets.

Ok. This place has no idea what good vintage speakers are worth normally but they saw a very large # somewhere for a pair of these and that’s where they are at :( Like gone over by a good tech on the inside and gone over by a professional cabinet maker wood restorer guy on the outside price. All good. We will see how much longer they sit there and then I will try and talk some sense into them.

So WHERE ARE YOU??
Just like real Estate, a lot of the value is determined by LOCATION.

What's worth one price in FL or AZ could be worth much less in CA or Toronto.
The way to determine price is to try and sell it and see what folks are willing to pay.

I know there is no ABSOLUTE PRICE for any of this stuff - buying and selling is not easy - its a crap shoot
it really does depend on who sees it and if it interests someone at that point.

BTW - you kept harping on "what its worth"
so I moved the thread to Dollars & Sense for you.

^ I'm no Altec expert but I believe you are spot on

I believe the term "Iconic" on the back of the speaker is just a term to reference a series or line up of speakers Altec released not a model name.

Here's some pics of what you are or were looking at.

Sure - the actual "Iconic" model looks more like this (Industrial or wood finish, the shape and grill is the point)
