A pair of Altec model 19 is up for auction on liveauctioneers.com. in case anyone is interested. Fairly rare holy grail of speakers located in Windsor CT. Current bid $800 with 9 days until auction end. If I lived closer I would be all over this.

I bought mine at an estate sale for $800. It can be done, but yes, that 28% premium is nonsense. I guarantee the auction company is also making money on the sale price.

Yeah, I feel like 10-20 is pretty common, but this is the first time I've seen anything close to that high.

Total price to the buyer is already over $1k, I don't think there's going to be any bargains here.

Yep. I never bid early to run up prices, unless it's to mark them early when dirt cheap.
All the action happens the last day/hours when things get serious...

I was astounded when I heard of "buyers premium". I think its ridiculous. Bids are adjusted to compensate. In these instances I would bid the most I would be willing to pay including the premium and wait for the auction to end. It prevents getting caught up in the bidding frenzy and keeps you within budget. The sooner the bid the better in case of an identical bid. Lost some good buys waiting til the last days to place my max bid.Hope someone here snags them.

I don't like the dog pee or whatever it is that was sprayed on the lower grille, but other than that they look nice and complete. Oak and walnut were both offered, this is of course oak, which had brown grilles but the grille cloth is not original. They do appear to be original grille frames (from what I can see) which is good. They are also on what appear to be the original risers, most are not so that too is good.

I've been watching three pair on eBay for the last month or so. They're hard to sell on-line because you really need to be able to pick them up to make it worthwhile, they seem to languish for sale for a long time between $2,500 and $3,500. I feel that they're well worth the $3,500 considering their SQ and overall quality if all of the original pieces are there and working properly, but getting that price is not easy. More likely they will sell for $3,000 or less. Two local buyers and that number climbs, only one local buyer and not so much.

They are hard to find near you when you're looking, but so are buyers so prices just don't go that high. Such is the nature of large speakers.

Expect to service the crossovers, original PIO caps are usually degrading by now.

Great Plains Audio is the go-to for parts and service (no affiliation).
