Hi
Does anyone know how I would go about connecting a Sansui AU55 stero amplifier, a Sansui B1000 stereo power amp and an Gemini PVX 30 graphic equalizer together. Also do the speakers connect to the AU55 or the B1000.

I couldn't find anything for AU55..do you mean AU555?

The AU555 is an integrated amplifier. This means it is a pre-amplifier and an amplifier all in one chassis. That is why it has a volume control among other things.

The B1000 is just an amplifier.

You usually don't connect the two.

Is AU55 the entire model number? I'm finding AU555, AU-D55F/X and AUG55X. Which, or what, is yours? The reason I ask, is the way to do this, (if you even should), will be influenced by the 55's output power and whether or not it has pre-out/amp-in terminals.

Sorry its a AU5500. So you don't recommend connecting the two together ?

Only if you intend to use the only pre-amp section of the AU5500 to drive the B1000.

The AU can be used as a single unit to play a source out to your speakers. The B1000 needs a pre-amp to feed it a signal.

I don't know enough about the AU to say for sure but it may have jumpers to connect the pre-amp output section to the amp input section. If it does, you can remove the jumpers and connect the pre-amp out to the inputs on the B1000.

This will allow you to select inputs and control the volume/balance... with the AU and have the output power of the B1000.

Use the tape monitor loop to connect the EQ to the AU5500 using the input and output jacks on the back of the EQ. disregard the EQ's rec out jacks. Use the tape monitor switch on 5500 to use the EQ. Use the preamp out jacks from the AU 5500 to feed the B1000 inputs and slide the amp switch on the back panel to separate.

The speakers would connect to the B-1000

From the AU-5500 you would run a pair of RCA cables from the "Pre Out" on the back and then terminate them to the "Input" on the back of the B-1000

The equalizer would connect to the AU-5500

The AU 55 is not a full part number but chances are that its either a AU-555 or AU-5500 both are integrated amp, meaning that are complete and can be used o their own.
Both have preamp outs that are normally connect preamp in connecting the output to the input the unit is self sufficient but both are low powered amps 20 and 32 watts so the primary reason to connect one to the b1000 that has 75 watt output
The most effective way in this situation to connect the equalizer is by pulling the shorting bars on the AU amp ( both have them) (they connect pre out to pre in) and use an RCA dual cable to connect pre out to eq input then a second cable from eq output to b1000 input . connect the speakers to the b1000 and any input devices to the AU amp.
make sure to make all connections with units turned off and unplugged while making these connections. If you choose not to use the eaualizer simply turn off the power and it will pass the signal with changing anything.
I would suggest connecting the speakers to whatever AU amp you have been using before connecting in the power amp or ej jq just to see how it sounds / Sansui has a nice tone and overall sound and can sound very nice , I have owned several over the years .
Note you can as some indicated connnect the eq via the tape in tape out function but in this setup if offers no advantage.

There are many different configurations available using this equipment but the is the simple way to setup the system. Since the user does not appear to know much about the quuipment it's likely there is more info the be gained before just connecting this stuff

hooking up an eq in between pre out/main in will work but if it has a spectrum analyzer, the level of the display will become dependent on the volume control.

also, if the eq has gain controls, hooking it up this way can cause the sound to distort.

just things to keep in mind.

connect said units through the tape loop or an external processor loop(if available) like they were designed.

Also keep in mind that the gear in question does not have a spectrum analyzer and in connection of dozens of similar units in commercial sound systems( they were popular in the past) I have yet to come across one with distortion from gain controls due to position in the system but of course connection via a tape loop will certainly work in these situations.
