I guess you are going to PJs (Packard and State). Then there is Encore Records on Liberty right by where Thompson meets Liberty.

http://overture-audio.com/ 618 South Main Street Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104

The guys are pretty cool, into vinyl, mostly laid back, no hard sell, used room in the basement. Saturday early is a pretty good time to be there, less crowded.

They carry :
Arcam DiVA Series
Paradigm Studio Reference
Arcam FMJ Series
Pro-Ject
Audioquest
Quadraspire
AVI
Rega
Grado
REL
Linn Hi-Fi
Salamander Design
NAD
Sonus Faber
Nordost
Vienna Acoustics
Paradigm
VPI (but I believe only the record cleaners, no tables)

BTW, where is "Worst than Detroit?"

Encore is a favorite haunt if you want more records.

Good hit ! that's also a Robert Plant song. sorry i wasn't more clear, i was looking for shops that sold gear not music, used would even be better.

  • As Dave mentioned, Overture audio on South Main (a little south of downtown AA)
  • Paragon Sight and Sound on Jackson Road (west of the Wagner road intersection). In the strip mall housing the cinemaplex.
  • Eyemedia Sound and Vision on Stadium Boulevard (a little east after Maple, stay on Stadium and you will see the sign on your right).

I have seen used equipment at both Paragon and Overture.

Does anybody know the story behind Campus TV? It's on Stadium in the same building as Stadium Hardware and Bell's Diner (which serves great breakfast BTW). I can see they have shelves and shelves of receivers and some Infinity speakers and the like, but from what I've heard and seen the shop is closed (even though the in-store signs are still lit up and everything). Anybody know details?

There's also a place on Main Street (close to where the old Firefly Jazz Club was) called Overture Audio - never been in, but it might be worth checking out.

overture audio has alot of high end gear upstairs & used stuff downstairs, pretty steep prices. never noticed the other place but i'm gonna look next time i'm in AA.

Almas on Woodward in Berkley has a good selection of used stuff. Not bargin basement but what looks like good quality stuff at fair prices. Some HT stuff but a lot of 2 channel tube and SS stuff. I was really surprised when I walked in recently.
