ok well i know that it is a Jensen Model1 speaker
i have the pair so thats not a mystery..
but im wondering about the quality and if these are worth the effort to fix the surrounds. i got the pair for a whole $2. and i have generic surrounds that fit

i can tell one thing from looking at them however..
these are WAY older than i am.

If you have the surrounds and the means to refoam them, why not? It can't hurt to give them a listen.

thanks for the reply..
yea them being model 1 i thought they might have some collectors value or something interesting about them.
jensen website doesnt have these in the vintage section and google is of no help.

well i will give them a real close ear listen useing the volume from my ipod..
if they sound anything special then i will refoam them..
or if i get a good :thmbsp: from anybody knowing anything about them..
dont wanna really waste $10. surrounds on speakers i got for $2. if i wont have a use for them.

I remember these as my teen years speakers in the late 60s. Not anything special on my Kenwood receiver. I found the next model up last year for a couple of bucks, hooked them up t o a SOny HT unit, much better, so they might need a lot of power to sound good, or the right source. I sold them to a friend soon afterwards, she likes the sound, vintage cool and mellow.

well they have alittle bit of bass to them.. maybe if i build a new enclosure for them they might find a spot to call home..
they did kinda hurt my ear alittle with the high freq's

High frequencies?

I don't remember much 'high frequency' from them. Maybe my ears are further gone than I know!
What are you listening to?

it was a crazy techno song i heard several times.. (green Calyx by aphex twin)
but with no box. and my ear being 2 inches away.. idk what i should be expecting..
these seem somewhat efficient. my ipod can get them up to a normal listening volume.
not sure if these surrounds will be too thick and hold the speakers back some??

How do you know they have a little bit of bass if you haven't refoamed them yet?

well when i listened. i was trying to be sure the bass i was hearing was just as loud as the mids and highs. then i heard a deep tone it was just as clear and loud as the rest of the sound..
but then again i was inches away..

well i am too curious now to not refoam them and just hear them so i am starting on it now..
i almost have all the old surround removed on the first speaker

first speaker refoamed and playing..
it really opens up at about 10w
it seems fair to say it sounds really normal.
nothing special about the sound they sound nice and clear..

Try different amps on them if you have them. My single FR Utah drivers (similar looking to yours) prefer some amps over others sound wise. I have a Sansui 1000A tube amp that makes them sound great as it is a bright amp and drives the top end well.

I believe that these Jensen 1s are from around 1974. With decent electronics driving them, and with the grilles off to keep the highs from getting muffled by the acoustically opaque grille material, they may surprise you. I have the next model up in the Jensen line, which uses a similar 8" woofer (minus the whizzer cone) and a small cone tweeter, and I was surprised at how good that speaker pair sounded when I finished replacing the woofer surrounds.
