Any info on a knight kn-370 receiver?

I just bought a very cheap knight receiver. It was cheap because it is missing the output tubes, knobs and top case. The model number is kn 370 and I can't find any info on it online. Because the pioneer er420 I refurbished came out so well I thought I'd take another stab. The power tubes are 7591a which I also have in A doctor z amplifier so buying a quad isn't as ridiculous as it might seem. Anyhow, any info you guys might have is very welcome.IMG_20250307_212637346.jpgIMG_20250307_212812480_HDR.jpgIMG_20250307_212759678.jpgIMG_20250307_212750573.jpgIMG_20250307_212718846.jpgIMG_20250307_212655789_HDR.jpgIMG_20250307_212637346.jpgIMG_20250307_212606847_HDR.jpg

According to transformer numbers these are American transformers from 1964.

Does anyone know who would have made these receivers for allied, or are they made by allied themselves?

Looks extremely similar to a bogen rp60 except that the bogen doesn't have pretty boxes over the output trannies and the bogen uses 7355 output tubes instead of 7591 tubes.

This question pops on a somewhat regular basis, I'm sure others will know better than I.

Allied was a catalog company that sold all sorts of audio equipment along with other stuff too, I'm pretty sure they didn't manufacture all in house I believe some products were outsourced.

Knight was their in house brand name

The more I look at it it has to be bogen the kn360 is an exact copy of the bogen pr60 and the only difference in layout between the kn360 and kn370 is 7591a in place of 7355 in the outputs and the output transformers. I wouldn't have minded it being a pioneer but this is a little easier underneath.

I was also going to say the layout looks like Bogen. Not many had the output tubes forward like that. Also the part number on the transformer is the same sort of number system the outputs on a Bogen amp I'm working on use.

Definitely US built, it has the look. Japanese stuff had different IF transformers and passive components. Euro stuff also looks different for the same reasons.

Do you think the output transformers are adequate? Worth my getting tubes and recapping? I've only got 65$ in right now.

I know nothing about this one specifically but my admittedly limited Bogen hifi output trafo experience is they perform fairly well, but neither Bogen i own is at all similar to this one.

I appreciate your candor, I went ahead and ordered tubes, caps and a couple of bulbs. It won't be super expensive and the power tubes could be backups for my Drz Jetta guitar head.

Just restrung the tuner from scratch. Man is that a challenge for a guy with only two hands. I bought string from a craft shop that seems to work very well. I went around the dial shaft three or four times. Is there a recommended amount?

Depends on the mfg but usually its not more than 3. Too many and it can climb over itself and bind, not enough and it slips.

I will admit i never understood that output tube placement on Bogen gear specifically for heat reasons. My DS225 has the tubes really close together too.

Bogen transformer part numbers start with "83-", so that's a definite ID. The RP-60 service manual should be close - Google will find it for you. I have a copy but not on this PC.

I have since found the bogen stuff. It's pretty darn close except for the transformers and tube bias. Also the voltages are fairly conservative so tube life should be reasonable. I'll gradually replace components and check operation as I go. Right now it will turn on and doesn't blow the fuse. We'll see with power tubes eventually.

IMG_20250313_160000837_HDR.jpgI got it running temporarily today. I have the full dial lights in, the tuning eye works and through the aux input we have loud clean music. I bought JJ 7591s. They seem just fine. I am going to wholesale replace capacitors next. Any electrolytic I find is on notice and the 4 coupling caps to the out puts of course.
