Any Vintage Onkyo Owners?

M-5090 AMP
P-3090 Pre Amp
TA-2070 Cassette Deck
T-9090 II Tuber

Original owner - all acquired 25 years ago - still in love with every piece - Amp has always beautifully driven a pair of JBL L-150As with Vinyl reproduction coming from a Denon DP-67L.

I got my A-7 in 80 or 81. I use it daily and has never let me down.:thmbsp:
I had a T-4 tuner but it got lost somewhere down the line.

I've just revived a TX-4500 MkII and am very impressed with the power; driving Advents. It cleaned up nicely and functions as expected.
Two small items remain - previous owner used a Pioneer knob as replacement for one of the smaller knobs and the meter lamps are out.
Anyone have an extra small knob and need a Pioneer knob?
And before I ask Dgwojo, anyone know the specifics for the meter lamps?
Thanks

Bruce

Picked up a A-25 Dual Servo Amp for $24 locally - currently hooked up to some Realistic Nova-5's - $14 in the kitchen. I need a tuner though. I'm waiting for the right one........it could be a while.

My first post here. I currently have an M-5140 power amp, driven by a P-3160 (I believe) preamp. It was my father's since new, and when he moved last year, he gave it to me. It was in storage a number of years.

I just hooked up the matching tuner, but no antenna yet. The matching dual tape deck is sitting in the corner of the room, I have no need for it, and sadly, the matching CD player is long gone. It was nice, as I recall. I have a Toshiba DVD player hooked up to it for DVD and CD playback.

Also sadly, the original Onkyo polyurethane-cone speakers are long gone, and a pair of B&W V201's have taken their place. I remember the original speakers were killer.

The system sounds sweet playing movies and CD's, and has rekindled my interest in hi-fi audio, which is why I'm here.

Welcome, Will.

The M5140 and p3160 are a popular combination. Plus, they seem to last forever. I'm betting those B&W speakers are better than the old Onkyos in most respects. They may not "crank" like the big ones, but they should have many other positive traits. (Although I am not familiar with the V201 model -- and I thought I knew all of B&W's models.)

Thank you for the welcome, sir. The B&W's might be better than the old Onkyos, but you know how your memory embellishes. The V-201's are small bookshelf speakers. They're really not too bad for their size. I think they're only rated at 65 watts or so, which makes me think I shouldn't crank the Onkyo too hard into them.

Next stop, I'm looking for a truly old-school Pioneer SX-9xx or 10xx. And some speakers that will handle that kind of power. :-)

Vintage Onkyo

I was just thinking that there weren't many threads for vintage Onkyo units.

Maybe I'll find out why after a few posts... :D

I have an Onkyo A-7 integrated amp with a T-9 tuner

Anyone else have any Onkyo pieces?

Scott

I have quite a bit of Onkyo stuff around the house and shop:

TX-2500 MKII reciever (45 WPC)
TX-4500 MKII reciever (60 WPC)
TX-6500 MKII reciever (100 WPC)
A-7 integrated amp (60 WPC) with a T-4 tuner and TA-630DM cassette deck (black guages)
A-10 integrated amp (85 WPC) with a T-9 tuner and TA-630DM cassette deck (silver guages)

M508 Grand Integra Amp (220 WPC MONSTER!!!!)
P306 Rs preamp
T-4087 tuner

I had a TX-8500 MKII reciever (160WPC beasty), but I sold it several months ago on Craigs List because the money was right, and I thought the TX-6500 sounded better anyway.

As per signature.
the 8037 is more than a match for both my speaker sets and the 4130? Well we have cable radio so I never checked her 'free to air 'radio stations reception. All in all a nice set and sufficient for my and missus levensnevel urrent needs with respect to audio

Onkyo A-7050

Hi everyone,
I won this tonight on the bay (australia).
It's an Onkyo A-7050. Seller described it as being "almost mint".
Anyway I got it for $65.00 australian ($50.00 us?)

There's not much on the net about this beauty apart from an AK thread dating back to 2003.

I wonder if any of you Onkyo buffs had any info about it? All I know is it dates from 1973/4.

Sansui has always been my thing. The price and gorgeous looks of this just reeled me in. :thmbsp: Can't wait till I get it home

Welcome to the forum. Vintagegirl

I got a Onkyo Y-200D for $10 (Plus $26 postage) from ebay. I gave it to my sister and she is over the moon. Although, I'm not so sure about the sound from it. It can sound a bit crowded and dirty if you know what I mean, dosent seem to be easy to listen too. Maby its just the speakers I paired it up with, but at least it keeping the new owner happy.

Welcome, Vintagegirl.

Onkyo makes a decent turntable, but their receivers are much better. Those EPIs are nice speakers.

I had an A-25, 40 w/ch, and it is a very healthy 40 w/ch, too.

This amp was one of Onkyo's "slimline" models, silver face, and a very clean, attractive amp. Even today, it would mix and match with some of the Onkyo silver face units and not look out of place.

The A-15 was similar. The A-25 used STK1050 hybrid chips for output, one for each channel. The A-15 used a single STK463 (I think) stereo output chip, which drove both channels. The A-25 had speaker output switching for Off (when listening to headphones), A, B, or A+B (in series). The A-15 had just Off, A, A+B.

Also, the A-15's phono stage was for MM cartridges. The A-25 had a pushbutton under the door, and indicator lights, for MM or MC cartridges.

The Onkyo T-15 (analog), T-25 (digital), and T-35 (digital) are great matches visually, and perform well.

The T-15 has a ferrite rod AM antenna on a ball joint on back, which I think can be disconnected. It just does not perform. This tuner very much needs a separate loop AM antenna. FM works great, and the servo lock feature really locks on a station.

I saw a T-15 on ebay just recently, and also T-25 and T-35 tuners.

If you will IM your email address, I can send you a pdf of an Onkyo brochure for the A-15/T-15 combo, and T-15 owner's manual.

This is my Onkyo TX-4500 MK II. I only know an extremely short history of it. I got it at a thrift store about a month ago, restored it (sorta, still need to replace a bolt, and replace lamps), but it's already managed to replace my Onkyo TX-820 receiver, completely, and drives 4 huge speakers.

I like my TX-4500 mk II as well. Like yours it came from a thrift, with the sticker on it reading "not working" for all of $6. The "not working" was solved by cleaning some controls and the burned out bulbs were replaced by LEDs. Man does the display look great now! It's in my bedroom system for the moment, but really too big for the space and due to be replaced by a Scott receiver in a bit (I hope). Great sounding receiver and an excellent tuner in there.
