Anybody with any experience with the recent TOTL Pioneer Elite HT receivers?

I bought an SC-25 a couple of weeks ago from BB and am very satisfied with it. I got it for $900 new in box. I had a Denon receiver prior and this one blows the denon away with its power. The accompanied room auto corrections system MCAC was easy to work with, the ICE-amps (from B&O) keeps the receiver incredibly cool to the touch and it has 'Pure Stereo' mode.

I'm yet to fully set it up and hope to do it sometime this week.

I really need to track down the microphone for the MCAC. It seems very easy to implement. I'm very much a stereo-purist but since this is mostly a movie setup, it's going to be fun to 'cheat' on my hobby and go to town with the tone controls/room correction when using it in stereo.

To try out a receiver's multichannel soundfield performance, (if you can find them!) I would use a dvd-audio's DTS or Dolby Digital track. Or, one of the many music dvds with one of those same formats.

Just make sure to use a title with an immersive mix i.e. something with discrete instrumentation in each channel, rather than simple ambience. For example, either of Beck's discs; The Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (a really immersive mix!); Linkin Park's Reanimation or the Crystal Method's Legion of Boom; Peter Gabriel's Play; Donald Fagen's The Nightfly; Yaz's Upstairs At Eric's; or Wing's Band On The Run or Steve Miller's Fly Like An Eagle DTS-CD.

What you really should use is a DB meter. I tried the mic balance with my Onkyo several times then ended up using a DB meter to really set it correctly. Made a tremendous improvement. :thmbsp:

Does your Onkyo have the Audyssey room correction system? From what I've read Audyssey and Pioneer's similar MCACC are far more advanced than typical EQ.

Wow, never thought of that. (DB meter):thmbsp: I have a Onkyo TX-SR805 HD 7.1 with the

Audyssey mic. And ended up going manual and resetting all my settings.

I used a tape measure and followed the Manual. The HD decoders are great. Used a HDMI straight from my Bluray to the Onkyo then HDMI to Flat Screen.

Better sight and sound. Seperation is improved on old 5.1 DVD movies now.
Thanks
Louis

I don't believe so as mine came out in 2003. None the less no calibration system can sufficiently adjust for room accustics. It can get you into the ball park and then from there its up to human intervention to tweek it even better. Here's an article I found that helps to explain even tho it's 4 years old. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_13_2/feature-article-auto-eq-5-2006-part-1.html I still as most recommend using a DB meter for a more precise calibration.

I think he talking about his new Pioneer Elete needing a mic.....not a older Onkyo 803 series. I have a 2009 TX-SR805 and used my mic and ended up
changing everything manual for my small living room. And I have 7 Klipsch speakers with "Horns" so they can get too "Bright" if you don't turn them down some for movies.

Good link....I just read it.
