Anyone coming up to Ontario from the USA?

Certified Crazy.
There's something in Fredericksburg, VA that I want.

The title basically says it all-- for some reason shipping northwards is stupid-expensive, so I'm looking for someone in the US who will be in the Toronto area (ideally) sometime in the near future.

Barring that just going from the US to Canada (driving something cross-boarder; in Ontario would be nice!) then shipping it to me within Canada would be excellent!

Philip, just fro your info as long as it is shipped via the US Postal Service you avoid the $45.00 brokerage that UPS and Fed Ex etc charge. That makes it a fair bit cheeper.

So far the USPS is the most expensive; something I think that FedEx includes the brokerage fee in their price--mouse over the estimated price and a little window with an estimated breakdown pops up (shipping charge, fuel, and brokerage/duty fee)-- while UPS hides it (in their disclaimer)!

Another thought is to use an American 'convenience address'. I have used US Address on Witmer Road in Niagara Falls NY, about 5 minutes from Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. Parcels are $5 each; you have to pre-register. Website/detail here: http://www.usaddressinc.com/

Whether it's economic depends on cost/size/fragility of item, and any possible 'delay' at border...

Or.. if you need I could hold it for you until you could arrange shipping or a pony express.. OR.. I've wanted a trip to Canada.. you buying? :D

I've shipped a fair amount of stuff up to Canada USPS.. not real bad prices.. as compared to shipping stuff to Germany... now THAT'S expensive through USPS
 
Haileyburian, that very well might be what I need to do... (edit; WOW that's upsetting... it's $17 to get it to *just* south of Canada, but $67 to get it to me)

Thanks Simi-- it's a tube tester! It's actually from another AKer so you may even know him...

Tester is 15" x 12" x 6" and at least 20 lbs., while the estimations I've been priced are based on 21" x 16" x 10" at 25 lb. box.

If you want to have someone pick it up and ship it to me (14075), I can meet you in Niagara Falls, US side or Lewiston. Lewiston is a much nicer place than Niagara to down a few cold brews.:beerchug:
