I acquired one today. In pretty good shape, except for a couple of small scratches on the front, and missing the AM antenna. All knobs In place. Dial good, as is the black metal cover. all jacks in back are intact. At the moment, operational status unknown.

Is this something that may be worth a little?, say $50, or so?

This is all the Tuner Info Center has to say about it:

The 2020 can sell for anywhere from $28-119 on eBay, with $30-70 the most common range.

The 2020 has lost his gyroscopic wheel :sigh: I think this model was just made at the very first beginning of the Philips reign on Marantz brand...

Could you give a shot of the interior. It would be interesting to see if Chris can determine if any similarity between it and the Philips 185 that he has. The meters below the dial and in the center look like the Philips 785 receiver layout but that was made in the States so probably noting in common with it.

Brian,

The listing here, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=WDVW has a partial shot of the interior. Enought to show it's 3 FM gangs and 2 AM gangs.

Is this enough to determine if it's a 185 in a Marantz box?

and now the pihlips 185...
from what i see the marantz has no gain control and has buttons for am ,fm and mono/stereo plus the muting button.the philips has a gain control,mono/stereo switch, mpx filter switch, and afc switch, and your selector knob that selects am,fm,fm mute.

Thank You

Thank you for the photo of the 185.

You are correct. They look like completely different designs.

The 2020 is a 1978 vintage - about a year before Philips acquired Marantz.
AFAIK, none of the last "classic" Marantz (all ESOTECs included) shared common parts with Philips units. CD players of course are a different (and later) matter...

The 2020 had in Europe an added smoked glass dark panel that covered the unit from the top to above the push-buttons, making a nice-looking circle above the tuning knob...
