Anyone familiar with the brand ''Sound'' ?

Never heard of it, but it sure is a nice looking amp. Are the speakers you got with it made by "Sound" as well making it a whole package system or are the speakers an other brand name? Whatever it turns out to be if it sounds good to you, the price was right. Enjoy.

No I got it with some Wharfedale speakers, yeah I'm pretty stoked on the fact that I got something for free in this expensive country. I can probably sell it for forty bucks here in Iceland.

Probably a 'chain' branding off of some other mfr. I would think other components would have been offered with it. As for quality open it up and look around at the parts and construction.

If it makes your wharfedale's sound good, can't be that bad.

Sure would be nice to see a picture of the insides with the wooden cover off. What about the amps weight, does it seem heavy for it's size? Sure is an interesting little amp you have there.

You are SO close to shorting that speaker terminal. Careful, there. An amp like that is unlikely to have any sort of protection against that kind of thing.

Looks recently built with the plating in good condition. Usually don't see a single bigger cap like that, I guess filtering. what brand name caps are in that thing? :smoke: (cigar puff)

Big cap= ELNA, CE-W, 50v 2200uf, BLACK-NEG, 26-1F

The caps where the heatsink is, appears to be ''Sun'' caps there.

On the back there are two caps, one small and one big, both are mafe by ''Oscar''.

Yeah Elna filtering cap.. I've heard of 'sun' (history below) can't remember and nothing on the 'oscar's'

Well how does the damned thing sound? like in Iceland? :smoke: (just kidding on the Iceland thing..)

several frigging edit points later...
Go figure I didn't dig deep into the above link for their caps.. damned interesting.

It sounds pretty good, I just have to clean up the switches, I just need to find some alternative to deoxit because it's not sold here in Iceland.

You might notice that in the first picture I have it connected to the tape-in, it's the only way I can get sound trough it because the Tape monitor switch is dirty-broken.

All in all pretty good for something I got for free.

Edit: Hahah I realize that I mention it quite often that I live in Iceland, I just do it to avoid comments like ''you could never get 40 bucks for that'' or ''why don't you just order some deoxit on ebay'', things are a lot different here.

Thanks for putting up the pictures of the inside, sure is nice and clean inside. Because the input is 200 watts the output will not be the most powerful, but for a smaller room matched with the right speakers it would likely sound great. Like I said before I really like the looks of that amp, sort of reminds me of a Marantz with the slide controls. It is pretty tough here where I live to find electrical contact cleaner as well, deoxit cannot be found anywhere around here, I use an electrical contact cleaner that my local hardware store orders in for me. Try your hardware store to see if they have any electrical contact cleaner available, just make sure it says safe on plastics on the label.

Thing with deoxits is over kill. only because of the spray. many wash out lube greases that were in them already when only a little drop of common house hold oil would eventually loosen the grease to the wipers would make contact and many have silicon in the formula.

We have a brand here called liquid wrench which has the same basic qualities of deoxit brands and it has a lubricant... again big spray power.. comes in lube cans, too. Just a drop or two that will do. All depends if you can see the wiper or make hole. (probably catch hell for stating above...)

Sounds like a 'keeper' if you like it..

I picked up a "Sound" a receiver a year or two back. No info to be found, looked about the same vintage. Also well built and sounded good.

Might as well keep it as they have more value in use than in the open market!

Since people are talking about output power. That's an old type of amp, very basic construction. Single supply with output capacitors (no DC offset will be present), and 10 watts per channel at the most.
